Andy Beshear\u2019s veto on Wednesday and passed a bill that outlaws abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>The law is modeled after Mississippi\u2019s law, which is currently before the Supreme Court and is the greatest challenge in decades to the Court\u2019s 1973\u00a0<em>Roe v. Wade <\/em>decision declaring abortion a protected right under the U.S. Constitution. The Kentucky House voted 76-21, and the Senate voted 31-6 to <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.legislature.ky.gov\/record\/22rs\/hb3.html\">override Beshear\u2019s veto<\/a>, and the law will go into effect immediately.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Advocates say the law will \u201cforce the state\u2019s two clinics to stop providing abortions immediately,\u201d the <em>Washington Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/14\/kentucky-abortion-republicans\/\">reported<\/a>. The new law only allows abortion if a woman\u2019s life is in danger and does not include exceptions for rape or incest. It also limits medication abortion and requires the cremation or burial of fetal remains, the report states.<\/p>\n<p>Beshear cited the lack of exceptions for rape or incest as one of the reasons for his veto on Friday.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cRape and incest are violent crimes,\u201d he said. \u201cVictims of these crimes should have options, not be further scarred through a process that exposes them to more harm from their rapists or that treats them like offenders themselves.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>Before the veto override, Republican state Sen. Stephen Meredith called abortion \u201ca stain on our country\u201d and \u201cour greatest sin.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cIf a mother can kill her own child, what prevents us from killing ourselves and one another?\u201d he said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>According to the <em>Post<\/em>, the Planned Parenthood in Kentucky on Thursday said it was not performing abortions.\u00a0<\/span><span>However, both Planned Parenthood and the American Civil Liberties Union said they are filing lawsuits to challenge the ban.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Kentucky is one of the most recent states to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/03\/24\/1088623491\/arizona-abortion-ban-15-weeks\">enact<\/a> such a ban. Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lifenews.com\/2022\/04\/14\/florida-gov-ron-desantis-signs-pro-life-bill-to-ban-abortions-after-15-weeks-saving-5000-babies\/\">signed<\/a> a similar law on Thursday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><em>Katherine Hamilton is a political reporter for Breitbart News.
