Greg Abbott for his enhanced border measures, arguing the policies have had little effect on migration while disrupting commerce.<\/p>\n<p>Abbott said April 8 that Texas would bus <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/14\/migrants-texas-abbott-dc-homeless\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">migrants<\/a> to Washington, <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/13\/greg-abbott-sends-dozens-illegal-immigrants-washington-dc-fox-cbs-news-headquarters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">D.C.<\/a> and increase car inspections at some border ports in response to the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention\u2019s (CDC) announced plans to lift Title 42, the public health order used to expel migrants during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Republican members of Congress, among other leading conservative voices, are criticizing Abbott for taking steps that they say are not fixing illegal immigration.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Texas Rep. Louie Gohmert told the Daily Caller News Foundation that while Abbott\u2019s actions are \u201cgreatly appreciated,\u201d what he\u2019s done is not likely making a dent in the surge of migrants coming across the border.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGov. Abbott\u2019s efforts are greatly appreciated, but the 40-50 illegal immigrants that have been bussed to DC and the 40-50 more being bussed currently to DC are not likely to reduce the thousands that are pouring into the U.S. each day,\u201d Gohmert said. \u201cWhat Texas should do if the Attorney General and Governor would step up, is to repel the invasion that Texas has every right to prevent when the federal government breaches its guarantee to protect Texas from invasion under Article 4, Section 4 of the U.S. Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_7369196\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-7369196\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">WASHINGTON, DC \u2013 DECEMBER 09: Rep. Chip Roy echoed Gohmert\u2019s message, emphasizing that Abbott\u2019s efforts aren\u2019t slowing down the influx of migrants.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m glad Abbott is elevating the issue, but don\u2019t think we\u2019re reducing even one of the 7,000 folks that will be apprehended tomorrow. It\u2019s game time. Stop. The Flow,\u201d Roy said in a statement sent to the DCNF.<\/p>\n<p>Gohmert added that Abbott should use the National Guard and Department of Public Safety (DPS) troopers currently on the border to prevent illegal crossings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThen, Texas is not enforcing immigration law which is the federal mandate; it is stopping the invasion. The specific number that comprises an invasion may be subject to debate, but it has got to be something less than the hundreds of thousands that are pouring in. In 1916, four or five dozen were considered an invasion by Pancho Villa into New Mexico when dozens of Americans were killed. The invasion currently taking place is killing tens of thousands, and that is deaths from fentanyl alone,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/greg-abbotts-5-dollar-avocados-border-truck-inspections-texas-immigration-title-42-biden-administration-11649883065?mod=MorningEditorialReport&#038;mod=djemMER_h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">said<\/a> that Abbott\u2019s efforts \u201cis not solving the border problem, it is increasing the cost of food and adding to supply-chain shortages.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSuch a misguided program is going to quickly lead to $2 lemons, $5 avocados and worse,\u201d Miller added.<\/p>\n<p>The Wall Street Journal editorial board <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/greg-abbotts-5-dollar-avocados-border-truck-inspections-texas-immigration-title-42-biden-administration-11649883065?mod=MorningEditorialReport&#038;mod=djemMER_h\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">slammed<\/a> Abbott for his migrant busing and enhanced vehicle inspections that have led to hours-long wait times for people and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/13\/greg-abbott-removes-vehicle-inspections-border-bridge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">commerce<\/a> entering the U.S. from Mexico.\u00a0<strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/13\/truckers-supply-chain-southern-border-greg-abbott\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Strain On The Supply Chain\u2019: Truckers Are Livid Over Texas Gov. Abbott\u2019s Border Security Measures)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201d [T]he stunt could hurt Republicans in districts along the border, where the party has been gaining support. It could also turn immigration politics more toxic and make Mexico less inclined to help at the border.
