The proposal also calls for zero-emissions sales to account for 68% of total sales by 2030,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>The report comes as Newsom also announced on Tuesday a $10.5 billion state climate investment program to reduce emissions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia continues to lead the way in confronting the sources of emissions that are driving the climate crisis, while bolstering resilience in our most vulnerable communities,\u201d Newsom <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2022\/04\/12\/california-climate-investments-program-implements-10-5-billion-in-greenhouse-gas-reducing-projects-expected-to-reduce-76-million-metric-tons-of-emissions\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese investments are reducing emissions across our state with projects that provide incentives for zero-emission vehicles and equipment, increase mobility through transit, build resilience to wildfires, and much more. We\u2019re committed to ensuring that the communities most burdened by air pollution share in these benefits, with cleaner transportation options, cleaner air, increased energy efficiency, and more livable communities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Over 50% of these project investments benefit disadvantaged and low-income communities through cleaner air, increased mobility options, expanded access to clean energy, new employment opportunities, and more.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yMYcMEjivO\">https:\/\/t.co\/yMYcMEjivO<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Office of the Governor of California (@CAgovernor) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/CAgovernor\/status\/1514037885745258501?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The recommended plan seeks to fulfill an executive order signed by Newsom in 2020 to end selling new gas-powered vehicles within 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shall be a goal of the State that 100 percent of in-state sales of new passenger cars and trucks will be zero-emission by 2035. It shall be a further goal of the State that 100 percent of medium- and heavy-duty vehicles in the State be zero-emission by 2045 for all operations where feasible and by 2035 for drayage trucks,\u201d Newsom\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/09\/9.23.20-EO-N-79-20-Climate.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">order<\/a> declared.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/california-governor-bans-sale-of-new-gas-powered-cars-beginning-in-2035\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>\u201cThis is the most impactful step our state can take to fight climate change,\u201d said Newsom\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.ca.gov\/2020\/09\/23\/governor-newsom-announces-california-will-phase-out-gasoline-powered-cars-drastically-reduce-demand-for-fossil-fuel-in-californias-fight-against-climate-change\/\">in a statement<\/a>. \u201cFor too many decades, we have allowed cars to pollute the air that our children and families breathe. Californians shouldn\u2019t have to worry if our cars are giving our kids asthma. Our cars shouldn\u2019t make wildfires worse \u2013 and create more days filled with smoky air. Cars shouldn\u2019t melt glaciers or raise sea levels threatening our cherished beaches and coastlines.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The governor enacted the change via an executive order, which does not require approval from the Democrat-dominated California legislature. The executive order does not apply to future used vehicle sales.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>According to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.latimes.com\/california\/story\/2020-09-23\/gavin-newsom-fracking-ban-california-zero-emissions-cars\">The Los Angeles Times<\/a>, Newsom sold the executive order in a press conference as a way to reduce asthma, curb rising sea levels, and preserve ice sheets, and suggested that other states follow his policy mandate.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>California is also not the only state working toward the end of gas-powered vehicles.
