That\u2019s a nearly <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/V2M8gfqj1p\">40 percent premium<\/a> over the closing price of the company\u2019s stock at the beginning of the month.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-rich is-provider-twitter wp-block-embed-twitter\"><\/figure>\n<p>The offer comes just days after Twitter announced Musk would no longer join its board of directors, a seat that would have prevented Musk from owning more than a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2022\/04\/14\/business\/elon-musk-twitter\">14.9 percent share<\/a> of the company, per their agreement. Now, many are publicly hyperventilating as they face completely losing their grip on a platform they can use to nuke their political enemies for <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/twitter-locked-my-account-for-telling-the-truth-about-rachel-levine\/\">saying a man is a man<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One senior software engineer at Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/mobile.twitter.com\/miguelytob\/status\/1514579407867887617\">said<\/a> he might even rethink working at the Big Tech company if Musk takes over. <\/p>\n<figure href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/07\/14\/twitter-censors-video-about-moms-and-inflation-as-sensitive-content\/\">suppress<\/a> and deplatform its political foes. It deliberately, maliciously, and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/04\/after-banning-trump-for-denouncing-violence-twitter-lets-putin-keep-his-account\/\">selectively<\/a> chooses whose content gets attention and whose doesn\u2019t. President Donald Trump, Canadian truckers, doctors and scientists discussing the origins of <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/04\/13\/big-tech-is-censoring-science-because-covid-19-panic-made-them-rich-and-destroyed-their-competition\/\">Covid-19<\/a> and possible treatments, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/21\/the-babylon-bees-twitter-resistance-is-a-lesson-in-taking-on-tech-tyrants\/\">The Babylon Bee<\/a>, and countless others have all been targets of its ideological censorship, which culminated in election interference. <\/p>\n<p>The most notable example of this meddling was in 2020 when Twitter <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/17\/after-throttling-the-hunter-biden-laptop-story-with-hacked-and-russian-disinformation-lies-propaganda-press-quietly-admit-it-was-completely-legit\/\">throttled<\/a> reporting about Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop and the corrupt Biden family business. The New York Post\u2019s stories about then-Democrat presidential candidate Joe Biden\u2019s knowledge of and involvement in Hunter\u2019s overseas business dealings were legitimate, but Twitter didn\u2019t care. <\/p>\n<p>Twitter claimed the reporting violated its \u201chacked materials policy,\u201d which it has\u00a0since <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/02\/16\/twitter-allows-actual-hacked-doxxing-of-freedom-convoy-donors-after-censoring-hunter-biden-reporting\/\">refused<\/a> to enforce, and banned the New York Post from tweeting until it took the article post down. Other users were also unable to share the story link to their profiles after Twitter halted the distribution of it just weeks before the 2020 election. <\/p>\n<p>Twitter\u2019s interference extends far beyond the 2020 election. When the Big Tech company isn\u2019t regulating speech, it is <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2021\/04\/26\/twitter-employees-actively-engage-in-misinformation-propaganda-to-attack-florida-and-texas\/\">editorializing<\/a> news and regurgitating its propaganda spin as a \u201ctrending topic\u201d on the site.<\/p>\n<p>Those censorship attempts are public, but Twitter also uses covert tactics such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pnas.org\/doi\/10.1073\/pnas.2025334119\">algorithm manipulation<\/a> to ensure that their ideological opponents don\u2019t get the traffic they deserve and that the political causes they care about are elevated. <\/p>\n<p>Musk\u2019s bid to take over Twitter is threatening because it could damage the company\u2019s ability to rig the narrative. That\u2019s why leftists are upset. Arguably their biggest tool to dominate the flow of information could be reduced to a platform where peasants are free to speak their minds. <\/p>\n<p>Already, Musk signaled his intent to change Twitter from the woke thought-control company it is to a free-speech platform. In March, Musk polled his followers on how well Twitter supports free speech, which he said is \u201cessential to a functioning democracy,\u201d and hinted that \u201cthe consequences of this poll will be important.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"704\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Musk-2-1024x704-1.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-270699\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Musk-2-1024x704-1.webp 1024w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Musk-2-300x206-1.webp 300w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Musk-2-768x528-1.webp 768w, https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/Musk-2.webp 1190w\"><\/figure>\n<p>He also asked his followers if the company should \u201cConvert Twitter SF HQ to homeless shelter since no one shows up anyway[?]\u201d and inquired, \u201cIs Twitter dying?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s no guarantee that Musk\u2019s Twitter takeover will work. In fact, the market shows there\u2019s a strong chance Twitter\u2019s board will reject Musk\u2019s offer in order to preserve its control regime.<\/p>\n<p>By doing so, Twitter would be opening itself up to lawsuits, but at this point, the company seems more likely to act against the financial interests of shareholders by rejecting Musk\u2019s offer than to give up its biggest censorship tool. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
