The rumor stems from a satirical website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Fauci, who serves as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/us-news\/2020\/dec\/04\/fauci-accepts-biden-offer-chief-medical-adviser\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">chief medical advisor<\/a> to the president, recently suggested that the U.S. is \u201clikely\u201d to see a surge in COVID-19 cases in the fall, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/policy\/healthcare\/3263037-fauci-us-likely-to-see-fall-covid-19-surge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hill<\/a>. Now, an April 12 Facebook post claims the epidemiologist has been arrested.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFauci has been arrested!\u201d reads the post. Notably, the user who shared it does not provide a source for the information or additional details about the alleged arrest.<\/p>\n<p><span>There is no evidence that Fauci has been arrested. No mention of this development appears on the Department of Justice\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/search.justice.gov\/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&#038;affiliate=justice&#038;sort_by=&#038;query=Anthony+Fauci\">website<\/a> or in press releases from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.niaid.nih.gov\/news-events\/news-releases?search=%22Anthony%20Fauci%22\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NIAID<\/a>. There are likewise no reports about Fauci\u2019s alleged arrest from credible news outlets such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/search?query=Fauci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/hub\/anthony-fauci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/site-search\/?query=Anthony+Fauci\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201c<\/span><span>This claim is false,\u201d said Renate Myles, an NIAID spokesperson, in an email to Check Your Fact. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/23\/fact-check-nih-special-assistant-arrested\/\">(RELATED: FACT CHECK: No, The Military Did Not Arrest A Special Assistant To Anthony Fauci)<\/a><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The rumor appears to stem from an April 10 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/2022\/04\/special-forces-arrest-deep-state-dr-anthony-fauci\/\"><span>article<\/span><\/a><span> published by Real Raw News titled \u201cSpecial Forces Arrest Deep State Dr. Anthony Fauci.\u201d The article alleges that Fauci was detained by the military and charged with treason, mass medical malpractice, seditious conspiracy and criminal homicide. <\/span><span>The website\u2019s \u201c<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/realrawnews.com\/about-us\/\"><span>About Us<\/span><\/a>\u201c<span> page states it publishes \u201chumor, parody, and satire.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time a rumor about Fauci being arrested has spread on social media.
