(The full guidelines can be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/page\/boil-water-notice-and-faqs\">read here<\/a>.)<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em><span>To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><span>In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/2021\/02\/17\/winter-weather-texas-southwest-austin-lost-creek-boil-water-notice\/6782508002\/\"><span>The Austin American-Statesman<\/span><\/a><span>, the Texas Commission on Water Quality\u2019s requires boil water notices to go out when water pressure drops below minimum standards, and the notice will remain in place until it is rescinded. Currently, m<\/span><span>illions of other Texas residents are under similar water advisories, have been instructed to stop using tap water, or have been instructed to conserve water due to looming shortages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWater should only be used to sustain life at this point,\u201d said the city of Kyle, Texas, which has 45,000 residents,<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/winter-storm-water-problems-blackouts-4982f85cf3e2ea262e4e2627f1aa8693\"><span>reports<\/span><\/a> <span>the Associated Press. \u201cWe are close to running out of water supply in Kyle.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Shortages have also been affecting the Texas energy grid, which left millions of Texans without power amidst the wave of cold weather. In response to calls to conserve energy, the Texas Capitol has gone dark, with the exception of certain safety lights, according to the local news outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kxan.com\/news\/local\/austin\/texas-capitol-dark-wednesday-night-after-large-buildings-told-to-conserve-power-downtown\/\">KXAN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The National Weather Service forecasts that snow and ice will continue to affect many areas of the U.S. already struggling through Friday night.
