Biological male athletes who seek to compete in female sports will not be allowed to participate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf it were truly the intention of the General Assembly to prevent unfair advantage in women\u2019s sports, it needed to look no further than the policies of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association,\u201d Beshear wrote in a letter with his veto last week.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Governor Andy Beshear vetoes SB 83, the bill than bans trans girls from playing on girls sports teams. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/LEX18News?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@LEX18News<\/a> <\/p>\n<p>Here is his veto message: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/ADBprrwL2B\">pic.twitter.com\/ADBprrwL2B<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Karolina Buczek (@Karolina_Buczek) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Karolina_Buczek\/status\/1511812897088978946?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cThe KHSAA [Kentucky High School Athletic Association] has approached the issue of transgender sports participation with nuance, collaboration and a sense of fairness that would allow transgender children the opportunity to participate in sports without disturbing the competitive balance. Senate Bill 83 disregards these efforts, inserting the General Assembly into our schools and imposing a complete ban on transgender children to compete in girls\u2019 sports,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman from Kentucky\u2019s American Civil Liberties Union also condemned the passage of the vetoed bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill is a solution in search of a non-existent problem,\u201d ACLU spokesman Samuel Crankshaw <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/kentucky-lawmakers-override-governors-veto-of-bill-banning-transgender-athletes-from-girls-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cIt is rooted in hate and unconstitutional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Supporters of the new law called the override passing the law \u201ca great day\u201d for women and girls across the Bluegrass State.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday is a great day for women and girls in Kentucky,\u201d David Walls, Executive Director of The Family Foundation, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kentuckyfamily.org\/victory-save-womens-sports-act-becomes-law-in-kentucky\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>.\u00a0\u201cBiology matters and female athletes deserve a fair and level playing field. As we have increasingly seen, when males are allowed to compete in girls\u2019 sports, they take championships, recognition, and opportunities that belong to female athletes. Thankfully, with SB 83 becoming law, girls in Kentucky can know they have a fair opportunity to compete and take advantage of sports opportunities meant for them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe commend the Kentucky General Assembly for taking action and siding with female athletes over radical gender ideology. Kentuckians will not soon forget that Gov. Beshear turned his back on girls in Kentucky,\u201d Walls added.<\/p>\n<p>The Family Foundation noted Kentucky as the 15th state to pass a law banning biological males from female sports.<\/p>\n<p>The issue of biological males identifying as female to participate in women\u2019s sports came to the forefront of national discussion as swimmer Lia Thomas, a biological male, recently won an NCAA Women\u2019s Swimming Championship race.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican governors of Utah and Indiana vetoed similar laws this year, citing concerns over legal challenges.<\/p>\n<p>Last month, Indiana Republican Governor Eric Holcomb vetoed a bill passed by the state\u2019s legislature that would have banned biological males from competing in girls\u2019 sports in the Hoosier state. The Daily Wire\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/indiana-republican-governor-vetoes-bill-to-ban-biological-males-from-competing-in-girls-sports\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>The veto stands in contrast with a growing number of GOP governors who have signed similar bills in recent months, including Iowa and South Dakota.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Holcomb argued in a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.in.gov\/gov\/files\/Veto-HEA-1041.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a>\u00a0to Indiana state Speaker Todd Huston (R) that the bill would increase \u201cthe likelihood of litigation against our schools with the courts having to adjudicate the uncertainties.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><i>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
