Bush and Transportation Secretary under Donald Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/person\/c\/elaine-l-chao\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elaine Chao<\/a> explained how she would fix the ongoing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/varney-on-china-lockdowns-the-worlds-supply-chain-is-threatened\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">supply chain<\/a> crisis, arguing that it starts by getting <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">inflation<\/a> under control on &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/shows\/varney-co\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Varney &#038; Co.<\/a>&#8221; Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The supply chain issue is linked to a whole host of policy decisions that have been made by this administration,&#8221; Chao told FOX Business\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/person\/v\/stuart-varney\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stuart Varney<\/a>. &#8220;It&#8217;s an issue about inflation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Inflation hitting a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/march-consumer-price-index-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">40-year high<\/a> in March coupled with the possibility of more shipping delays due to China\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/china-covid-lockdown-apple-automakers-inflation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">latest<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/coronavirus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">COVID-19<\/a> lockdowns puts pressure on President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden<\/a> to find a solution sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is putting increasing demand at precisely the time when the supply chain is actually quite still fragile and vulnerable,&#8221; Chao said.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/varney-on-china-lockdowns-the-worlds-supply-chain-is-threatened\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>VARNEY ON CHINA LOCKDOWNS: THE WORLD&#8217;S SUPPLY CHAIN IS \u2018THREATENED\u2019<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Uncertainty surrounding further supply chain delays forces consumers and companies to order more products now before they run out, according to the former Transportation Secretary.<\/p>\n<div class=\"inline image-ct\">\n<div class=\"m\"><source media=\"(max-width: 767px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 768px) and (max-width: 1023px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1024px) and (max-width: 1279px)\" \/><source media=\"(min-width: 1280px)\" \/><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/a57.foxnews.com\/static.foxbusiness.com\/foxbusiness.com\/content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/931\/523\/ELAINE-CHAO-GETTY.jpg?ve=1&#038;tl=1\" alt=\"Elaine Chao speaks at a summit.\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"caption\">\n<p><span>Elaine Chao, 18th U.S. Secretary of Transportation; 24th U.S. Secretary of Labor.<\/span><span> (Getty Images)<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>&#8220;They&#8217;re not quite sure if they&#8217;re going to get what they need within the time-space that they need,&#8221; Chao explained, &#8220;so they order more, and that increases, again, the pressure on the supply chain.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As an expert in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/category\/jobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">labor<\/a> sector, Chao praised the &#8220;unsung heroes&#8221; who have worked in the supply chain during this time.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Those include truckers who have kept our shelves fully stocked,&#8221; she noted, &#8220;and railroad workers, port workers and also air traffic control workers.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/apps-products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong><u>GET FOX BUSINESS ON THE GO BY CLICKING HERE<\/u><\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In July, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/economy\/supply-chain-showing-signs-the-worst-is-over-port-of-long-beach\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">West Coast ports<\/a> will hold renegotiation talks with union dockworkers for new contracts.
