The reports follow consecutive weekends of flight cancellations and delays.<\/p>\n<p>Citing staffing issues, the airline said it would be adjusting the rest of its April schedule, and more cuts are slated for next month and through the summer, NBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/business\/travel\/jetblue-cancels-flights-crew-shortages-rcna24069\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><span> \u201cDespite hiring more than 3,000 new crew-members already this year, like many businesses, we remain staffing constrained,\u201d JetBlue said in a statement Tuesday, per the outlet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Sunday, CNBC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2022\/04\/10\/jetblue-is-cutting-its-summer-schedule-to-avoid-further-flight-disruptions.html\">reported<\/a>\u00a0it had obtained an email from JetBlue Chief Operating Officer and President Jennifer Geraghty to employees, indicating looming capacity reductions next month and through the summer.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWe\u2019ve already reduced May capacity 8-10% and you can expect to see a similar size capacity pull for the remainder of the summer,\u201d Geraghty\u2019s email reportedly said.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>\u201cDespite these challenges and, based on your feedback that the schedule is wound too tight, we know the best plan is to reduce capacity now,\u201d Geraghty wrote, according to CNBC. \u201cI think everyone recognizes that the industry still remains very much in recovery mode, so we believe this proactive step is the right decision.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On April 8, the airline experienced delays on 599 flights or 55 percent of its departures trips, Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/weather\/2022\/04\/09\/9000-flights-delayed-1100-canceled-friday-saturday\/\">reported<\/a>, citing data from flight tracking company FlightAware. The previous weekend, the airline axed 15 percent of flights on April 2 and another 25 percent on April 3, Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/04\/thousands-flights-canceled-delayed-spring-break-weekend\/\">noted<\/a>.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>JetBlue\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/airlines-cancel-3300-us-flights-weekend-rcna22758\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">cited<\/a>\u00a0\u201csevere weather in the Southeast and multiple air traffic control delay programs\u201d for the cancellations on April 2-3.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Delays on April 9 left customers furious. \u201cAbsolute disaster today,\u201d tweeted\u00a0<\/span><span>Kevin Jones, founder and CEO of sports media company Blue Wire Pods. <\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Absolute disaster today <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/JetBlue?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@JetBlue<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Kevin Jones (@Mr_KevinJones) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Mr_KevinJones\/status\/1512860085017530379?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 9, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Twitter user @Bagladkim <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BagladyKim\/status\/1512859005475033094\">claimed<\/a> her flight was canceled hours before take-off:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>@Jetblue nice job cancelling our flight 10 hours before take off with no explanation. We have no hotel, need to return car rental and missing obligations at home. Fourth flight in a row by you where the return flight was changed and third where it was inexplicably cancelled.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Friday\u2019s delays and cancellations were not confined to JetBlue. Southwest and Delta saw\u00a01,348 and 629 delays, respectively, and Spirit Airlines saw delays on 378, or 46 percent, of its flights, while 539 of United\u2019s flights were delayed, Breitbart News noted, citing FlightAware data.<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden\u2019s Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has remained silent regarding cancellations and delays that have plagued the airline industry over the past few weeks. However, he did <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/pre-viral\/2022\/04\/13\/faa-announces-81000-fine-unruly-passenger-duct-taped-flight\/\">appear<\/a> on ABC\u2019s <em>The View<\/em> on Friday to discuss the issue of unruly passengers ahead of the Federal Aviation Administration\u2019s announcement that a pair of alleged ill-behaved passengers would be hit with five-figure fines. During his appearance, guest co-host LeAnn Rimes touched on cancellations.<\/p>\n<p>Rimes asked:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Just last week there were over 12,000 cancellations and delays alone, and I\u2019m just wondering with all the unruly passengers, with the whole situation, what are you going to do that will ease all of these disruptions that we\u2019re are experiencing while traveling?<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Buttigieg side-stepped the issue of cancellations and honed in on passenger behavior:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Look, it\u2019s one thing to be grumpy on a flight. I feel that way sometimes when I get canceled or delayed, but yeah it\u2019s another thing to endanger flight crews and to endanger fellow passengers. We have no tolerance for that. The FAA is actually getting ready to announce record fines on people who have done this. Look, if you\u2019re on an airplane, don\u2019t be a jerk. Don\u2019t endanger your fellow passengers.<\/p>\n<p>\u2026<\/p>\n<p>But the bottom line is, if you do it on an airplane, and you endanger flight crews and fellow passengers, you will be fined by the FAA and you may be referred to criminal prosecution as well, you might lose the privilege of flying on that airline, period.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Later in the day, the FAA, which falls under Buttigieg\u2019s Department of Transportation, announced proposed fines of $81,950 and\u00a0$77,272 for two unruly passengers involved in unrelated incidents last summer.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>JetBlue intends to scale back its summer schedule as they are \u201cstaffing constrained,\u201d according to reports.
