For context, the cost of petrol rose by 3.5p during the same time period last year. Diesel prices have also been on the rise, increasing by 18.8p per litre.<\/p>\n<p>It is likely that inflation will only continue to get worse, as the latest figures do not reflect the 54 per cent increase in the energy cap in April by the nation\u2019s energy regulator Ofgem, which has warned of further increases to the cap in the Autumn.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The Office for Budget Responsibility <a href=\"https:\/\/obr.uk\/overview-of-the-march-2022-economic-and-fiscal-outlook\/\">warned<\/a> last month that when the cap is reviewed in October, inflation could hit a 40-year-high of 8.7 per cent.<\/p>\n<p>The lead economist for the Confederation of British Industry (CBI),\u00a0Alpesh Paleja <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/uk-inflation-hits-30-year-high-of-7-06hrxd2rn\">told<\/a> <em>The Times<\/em>: \u201cThe latest rise in inflation will not be the last. We\u2019ll see another jump over April as the rise in Ofgem\u2019s energy price cap comes into effect. Beyond this, volatility in global commodity prices and ongoing supply chain disruption will continue to stoke price pressures.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While the UK only imports around 6 per cent of its crude oil from Russia, it is still subject to the global fluctuations on prices as a result of Western sanctions and supply disruptions. Many, including economic conservatives such as Reform UK leader Richard Rice have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?client=internal-element-cse&#038;cx=partner-pub-9229289037503472:6795176714&#038;q=https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2021\/11\/14\/exclusive-china-and-russia-are-laughing-at-boris-johnsons-net-stupid-green-agenda-says-richard-tice\/&#038;sa=U&#038;ved=2ahUKEwik_dCfg5H3AhVxYjUKHYkNC3kQFnoECAQQAg&#038;usg=AOvVaw3o8YdCpFznartEjj_lYdsU\">long-warned<\/a> of the dangers of failing to tap domestic sources of energy such as fracking.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">UK Inflation: Wages \u2018Falling Noticeably\u2019, as Energy Cap Set for Another \u00a3500 Increase<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/de5XIRwnrW\">https:\/\/t.co\/de5XIRwnrW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1514211810949406721?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The inflation has expanded throughout the economy on top of the rise of fuel costs, with the price of eating in restaurants or staying in hotels seeing record increases, while the price of clothing and footwear jumped by 9.7 per cent.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The price of cooking oils and fats also increased by 7.2 per cent in March, likely a result of the war in Ukraine, which is a major supplier of items such as sunflower oil.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0chief executive of wholesaler BidFood, Andrew Selley <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/uk-61090937\">told<\/a> the BBC:\u00a0\u201cI\u2019ve been in the business for over 30 years.
