Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg spoke about the fine on ABC\u2019s <em>The View<\/em> Friday.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Transportation\u2019s FAA said the incident occurred aboard an American Airlines flight heading from Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, to Charlotte, North Carolina, on July 7.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA alleges the passenger threatened to hurt the flight attendant that offered help to the passenger after she fell into the aisle,\u201d the agency said. \u201cThe passenger then pushed the flight attendant aside and tried to open the cabin door.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When two flight attendants attempted to restrain the unruly passenger, she allegedly unleashed a flurry of punches to one of their heads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter the passenger was restrained in flex cuffs, she spit at, headbutted, bit and tried to kick the crew and other passengers,\u201d according to the FAA. \u201cLaw enforcement apprehended her in Charlotte.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The <em>Charlotte Observer<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.charlotteobserver.com\/news\/business\/article260340940.html\">reported<\/a> that the passenger was duct-taped to her seat during the flight.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Video shows woman duct-taped to seat after trying to open airplane door <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/2i5Ef73xYe\">https:\/\/t.co\/2i5Ef73xYe<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/yPWEYPD3Tw\">pic.twitter.com\/yPWEYPD3Tw<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 New York Post (@nypost) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nypost\/status\/1414390062368837635?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">July 12, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>A now-deleted TikTok video allegedly \u201cshowed the woman with duct tape on her mouth and her upper body taped to the seat with her hands at her sides,\u201d Breitbart News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/health\/2021\/07\/11\/video-woman-duct-taped-airplane-seat-after-trying-open-door\/\">reported<\/a> several days after the incident.<\/p>\n<p>In the release, the agency announced another passenger is facing a $77,272 fine for her alleged behavior aboard a Delta Airlines flight from Las Vegas to Atlanta on July 16, 2021:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The FAA alleges the passenger attempted to hug and kiss the passenger seated next to her; walked to the front of the aircraft to try to exit during flight; refused to return to her seat; and bit another passenger multiple times. The crew had to physically restrain her.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The agency did not disclose the identities of either passenger.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>On Friday, Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oHc4KyP2lx8\">appeared<\/a> on ABC News\u2019s <em>The View<\/em>, and guest co-host\u00a0LeAnn Rimes asked him about the numerous cancellations and delays plaguing the aviation industry lately.<\/p>\n<p><em>WATCH:<\/em><\/p>\n[embedded content]\n<p>Rimes asked:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>Just last week there were over 12,000 cancellations and delays alone, and I\u2019m just wondering with all the unruly passengers, with the whole situation, what are you going to do that will ease all of these disruptions that we\u2019re are experiencing while traveling?\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Buttigieg failed to detail a plan that would ease cancellations and delays but spoke to the hefty fines that were announced following his appearance on the show:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>Look, it\u2019s one thing to be grumpy on a flight. I feel that way sometimes when I get canceled or delayed, but yeah it\u2019s another thing to endanger flight crews and to endanger fellow passengers. We have no tolerance for that. The FAA is actually getting ready to announce record fines on people who have done this. Look, if you\u2019re on an airplane, don\u2019t be a jerk.
