There is no evidence to suggest 30,000 Azov members have been killed.<\/p>\n<p><span><strong>Fact Check:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The mayor of Mariupol, a besieged Ukrainian port city, claims that more than 10,000 civilians have been killed in the Russian attack on the city, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/russia-ukraine-state-of-the-union-address-zelenskyy-biden-kyiv-7cc069b80178629a60f4f2d166348d45\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Associated Press<\/a>. The city, and the Ukrainian forces defending it, have been surrounded and bombarded by Russian forces for weeks, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/europe\/ukraine-tells-russia-return-prisoners-if-you-want-top-ally-back-2022-04-12\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Reuters<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>One image shared on Facebook claims to show the deadly results of the Russian siege. It shows what appears to be a satellite image of a parking lot where hundreds of small, black objects are visible. \u201c30k+ Azov body bags in Mariupol,\u201d the post\u2019s caption claims. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/17\/fact-check-ukraine-conflict-body-bags-smoking\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Video Show A Ukrainian Person Smoking A Cigarette In Body Bag?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Azov Battalion, comprised of an estimated 900 members, is a \u201cfar-right all-volunteer infantry military unit whose members\u2026 are ultra-nationalists and accused of harbouring neo-Nazi and white supremacist ideology,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aljazeera.com\/news\/2022\/3\/1\/who-are-the-azov-regiment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Al-Jazeera<\/a>. Members of the battalion are defending Mariupol, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-europe-61089043\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BBC News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The photo shared on Facebook does not show body bags. A reverse image search revealed the satellite image was captured by Maxar Technologies, a Colorado-based space technology and intelligence company, according to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.maxar.com\/about\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">website<\/a>. The image has been shared by numerous media outlets, including <a href=\"https:\/\/www.space.com\/food-lines-ukraine-mariupol-satellite-photos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Space.com<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/news\/world\/satellite-images-show-apparent-devastation-hunger-mariupol-rcna22119\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NBC News<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/03\/30\/world\/europe\/mariupol-food-lines-russia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The New York Times<\/a>, all of which state it shows scores of Ukrainians lined up outside a supermarket in Mariupol waiting for food and supplies.<\/p>\n<p>Other images from Maxar show the range of devastation in the city as the siege continued, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/photos-mariupol-devastated-russian-bombardment-d4e95074-3c1c-4742-88a1-e582ae907471.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Axios<\/a> reported.
