We can treat each other with dignity and respect. We can join forces, stop the shouting, and lower the temperature. For without unity, there is no peace, only bitterness and fury,\u201d Biden said as he took the oath of office in January 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The president\u2019s sister joined Wallace on his <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/who-the-hell-is-going-to-pay-for-cnn-howard-stern-mocks-chris-wallaces-career-change\/\">recently-launched CNN+ program<\/a> \u2014 \u201cWho\u2019s Talking to Chris Wallace?\u201d \u2014 and she appeared to blame former President Donald Trump for Biden\u2019s inability to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/psaki-admits-despite-bidens-calls-for-unity-hes-not-talking-about-solving-bipartisanship-in-this-zip-code-here\/\">bring Americans together<\/a> in the way he had promised, saying, \u201cThe divisiveness of a past president has very, very, very deep roots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mediaite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/news\/chris-wallace-grills-valerie-biden-owens-on-her-brothers-unity-pledge-trashing-trump-not-exactly-lowering-the-temperature\/\">reported<\/a> on the full interview, which covered a number of topics, but focused on Wallace\u2019s questions about the president and his promise to unify the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut that pledge, that hasn\u2019t happened. Why not?\u201d Wallace asked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s happened on Joe\u2019s part, I think Joe\u2019s has certainly been a uniter, or worked his very best to be a uniter,\u201d Owens replied, saying that her brother had always had the ability to reach people because he could empathize with them.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe has a characteristic, a quality. It\u2019s called empathy,\u201d she explained. \u201cAnd it\u2019s the connective tissue with humankind. And unless we have, we develop some empathy and step back and say, \u2018You know what, Chris, I don\u2019t agree with you on anything,\u2019 or \u2018I don\u2019t agree with what you just said. But you know, let me, maybe I don\u2019t have all the facts. Let me think about it. Tell me again why you hold that position,\u2019 as opposed to \u2018I don\u2019t agree with you because you\u2019re a no-good son of a gun.\u2019 And you know, whatever expletives that I want to put on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJoe has done his best to unite the country,\u201d Owens continued, pivoting then to tout some of Biden\u2019s accomplishments since taking office. \u201cHe has done some really significant things in his first year in office with bipartisan support working for infrastructure. How about with the COVID vaccine, preparing for the new wave that\u2019s going to come \u2026\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m not saying he hasn\u2019t accomplished things,\u201d Wallace pushed back, noting that Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dailywire.com\/news\/7-times-biden-divided-the-country-despite-calling-for-unity\/\">failure to unify<\/a> the country wasn\u2019t necessarily his fault entirely but that it still hadn\u2019t happened.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not all his fault. It\u2019s clearly not all his fault,\u201d Owens agreed. \u201cWe are so polarized. And Joe, to the contrary of exacerbating that, has always been the one who is the healer who\u2019s tried. You cannot lead unless you can heal. That\u2019s a Ben Nighthorse Campbell quote.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Wallace went on to question Owens about something she had written, reading aloud, \u201cWhereas Trump is vulgar. Joe is gracious, whereas Trump is mean-spirited, Joe is kind.
