Version: 4.0.47--><div><\/div>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is expected to extend the travel mask mandate once again.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whio.com\/news\/trending\/\"><i><b>>> Read more trending news <\/b><\/i><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">Masks will be required for two weeks longer than initially planned, sources have told <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/covid-health-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-e603a9dfc361ad095733bc868ebeba74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">The mask mandate was scheduled to expire on April 18, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/travel\/news\/2022\/04\/12\/mask-mandate-plane-train\/7293562001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">The decision was made to monitor an uptick in COVID-19 cases in the country. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">It will be a two-week extension to see if there are any observable increases in severe virus outcomes and the decision was made out of an abundance of caution, a source told the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/covid-health-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-e603a9dfc361ad095733bc868ebeba74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AP<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">The Transportation Security Administration enforces the rule on planes, buses, trains and transit hubs, the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/covid-health-centers-for-disease-control-and-prevention-e603a9dfc361ad095733bc868ebeba74\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">AP <\/a>reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">The Biden administration had been expected to issue a flexible masking plan this week to replace the nationwide mandate.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">Republican lawmakers, along with airline officials, had been asking the administration to do away with the federal mask mandate for travel, <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/airline-mask-mandate-extension-table-traveler-numbers-soar\/story?id=84032895\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">Airline CEOs cited vaccine efficacy and the \u201cburden\u201d of enforcing the mandate in a letter to the president last month as reasons to roll back the requirements. <\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">\u201cNow is the time for the Administration to sunset federal transportation travel restrictions \u2013 including the international pre-departure testing requirement and the federal mask mandate \u2013 that are no longer aligned with the realities of the current epidemiological environment,\u201d the letter said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/airline-mask-mandate-extension-table-traveler-numbers-soar\/story?id=84032895\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">ABC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">\u201cImportantly, the effectiveness and availability of high-quality masks for those who wish to wear them gives passengers the ability to further protect themselves if they choose to do so,\u201d the letter continued. \u201cIt makes no sense that people are still required to wear masks on airplanes, yet are allowed to congregate in crowded restaurants, schools and at sporting events without masks, despite none of these venues having the protective air filtration system that aircraft do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-xb1qmn-0 gBBfcc body-paragraph\">Many states have rolled back mask rules in restaurants, stores and other indoor settings.
