The Giants\u2019 first base coach walked up the dugout steps to confront Shildt, and was ejected.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the game, Richardson said Shildt\u2019s words \u201creeked undertones of racism.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhat happened was the third base coach from the San Diego Padres was looking into our dugout, and I said, \u2018Can I help you, are you looking for somebody?\u2019 And he says to me: \u2018I didn\u2019t say anything to you.\u2019 I said \u2018I know, I want to know if I can help you.\u2019 At this time, he\u2019s walking toward our dugout,\u201d Richardson told reporters after the game, according to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.knbr.com\/2022\/04\/12\/giants-3b-coach-antoan-richardson-says-padres-coachs-comments-that-reeked-undertones-of-racism-led-to-ejection\/\"><span>KNBR<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cHe says, \u2018Hey, I was looking for Alex Wood.\u2019 At that point, Kap came over to kind of defuse the situation. I turned to Woody and I said, \u2018Hey Woody, Shildt is looking for you.\u2019 At that point in time, Shildt started to walk back toward third base. He yelled \u2018You need to control that m*****f*****.\u2019 At that point in time, I went to the top step and said, \u2018excuse me.\u2019 Because I couldn\u2019t believe what I heard. At that point in time, the crew chief decided to toss me from the game.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI say this because his words were disproportionately unwarranted and reeked undertones of racism when he referred to me as \u2018that m*****f*****,\u2019 as if I was to be controlled or a piece of property or enslaved,\u201d Richardson <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.knbr.com\/2022\/04\/12\/giants-3b-coach-antoan-richardson-says-padres-coachs-comments-that-reeked-undertones-of-racism-led-to-ejection\/\"><span>continued<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cI think it\u2019s just really important we understand what happened tonight. And the second part that\u2019s equally disappointing is that me being tossed by that umpire empowers this coach to continue to have conversations like that with people like me. And that\u2019s really unfortunate that\u2019s that what happened tonight.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Antoan Richardson: Mike Shildt told Kapler to &#8220;control that motherfucker.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I think that his words were disproportionately unwarranted, and reeked undertones of racism when he referred to me as &#8216;that motherfucker,&#8217; as if I was to be controlled, a piece of property, or enslaved.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/GJ9pg1VkFm\">pic.twitter.com\/GJ9pg1VkFm<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 KNBR (@KNBR) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/KNBR\/status\/1514133261009625091?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 13, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>According to Richardson, he was ejected from the game for \u201cinstigating.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following the game, a 13-2 win for the Giants, Kapler defended Richardson, saying that he didn\u2019t \u201cinstigate any part of this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI trust Antoan\u2019s judgment 100 percent,\u201d Kapler <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/mlb\/story\/_\/id\/33729248\/san-francisco-giants-coach-antoan-richardson-accuses-mike-shildt-yelling-expletive-reeked-undertones-racism\"><span>said<\/span><\/a><span>. \u201cI trust Antoan\u2019s judgment on the matter, and I know that Antoan was not out of control at all and that anything that was said to insinuate that he was is totally inappropriate.
