Just over 200 employees work in Texas, which has a law on the books banning abortions after <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2022\/02\/10\/report-shows-impact-of-texas-heartbeat-abortion-law-one-month-after-it-took-eff-n2603131\">fetal heartbeat detection<\/a>, which occurs at about six weeks gestation.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">According to the Times, a Yelp representative said the company\u2019s new abortion policy \u201cbenefit extends to employees in other states who might be affected by \u201ccurrent or future action that restricts access to covered reproductive health care.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">I\u2019ve covered in recent weeks how more pro-life states, such as <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2022\/03\/31\/arizona-gov-ducey-signs-bills-limiting-abortion-and-protecting-womens-sports-n2605312\">Arizona<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2022\/03\/07\/desantis-expected-to-sign-15-week-abortion-ban-into-law-n2604214\">Florida<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2021\/12\/01\/pro-abortion-activists-urge-supreme-court-to-uphold-roe-v-wade-amid-mississippi-n2599916\">Mississippi<\/a>, have created legislation banning abortion at 15 weeks, which is <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2021\/07\/27\/new-study-shows-that-mississippis-proposed-15week-abortion-ban-is-mainstream-in-europe-n2593165\">mainstream<\/a> in Europe. Other than <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2022\/03\/23\/pro-abortion-gov-newsom-signs-law-making-abortion-costs-cheaper-n2604935\">California<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2022\/04\/11\/democratic-maryland-lawmakers-override-governors-veto-to-allow-non-physicians-to-n2605741\">Maryland<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/townhall.com\/tipsheet\/madelineleesman\/2022\/04\/05\/democratic-gov-polis-signs-law-creating-fundamental-right-to-abortion-in-color-n2605498\">Colorado<\/a>\u00a0 are pushing extreme pro-abortion policies.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The Times noted that Yelp\u2019s diversity officer is not concerned how the company\u2019s abortion \u201cprogram\u201d will be received. Reportedly, the program is another effort to push the company\u2019s pro-abortion agenda, as they already work towards steering Yelp users away from crisis pregnancy centers.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u201cYelp is not concerned about how its program, which starts next month, will be received, said Miriam Warren, the company\u2019s chief diversity officer. She and other executives have received many personal notes thanking Yelp for taking a stand on abortion, she said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">The move, which comes as companies vie for talent in a tight labor pool, will help Yelp maintain a more diverse and inclusive work force, Ms. Warren said. \u2018We want to be able to recruit and retain employees wherever they might be living,\u2019 she said.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2018The ability to control your reproductive health, and whether or when you want to extend your family, is absolutely fundamental to being able to be successful in the workplace,\u2019 she added.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">\u2018I think the question for these companies is really going to be: Where do you want to locate?\u2019 said Caitlin Myers, an economist at Middlebury College in Vermont who has been tracking the economic effects of reproductive health policies. \u2018Do you locate in a place where women have extraordinarily limited reproductive rights? Are you going to be able to recruit women to come there?\u2019\u00a0<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Yelp\u2019s travel benefit is part of its longer-term efforts on abortion access.
