A similar bill is already pending in the Senate, SB 1191, where Republicans also outweigh Democrats. Democrat Gov. Tom Wolf tweeted during deliberations, threatening to veto the bill if it passes.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cIt won\u2019t get past my desk,\u201d Wolf wrote in part.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">As states across the country push transphobic legislation, some Republicans in the General Assembly are wasting time attempting the same in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>It won&#8217;t get past my desk.<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s enhance protections for LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians instead. Send me the bipartisan Fairness Act. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/Srj8JBsJwn\">pic.twitter.com\/Srj8JBsJwn<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Governor Tom Wolf (@GovernorTomWolf) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovernorTomWolf\/status\/1513955114003963909?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 12, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Instead, the far-left governor spoke in support of another bill that would \u201cenhance protections for LGBTQ+ Pennsylvanians.\u201d According to the <em>Daily Item<\/em>, HB300 would \u201camend the state Human Relations Act to add protections against discrimination based on sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The GOP-led legislation\u2019s\u00a0main sponsor, state Rep. Barbara Gleim, cited \u201cLia\u201d Thomas as an example of why the Fairness in Women\u2019s Sports Act is necessary. Thomas, a man who says he is a woman, has been competing on the University of Pennsylvania\u2019s women\u2019s swimming team and has snagged titles from actual women due to his obvious biological advantages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWomen lose out on a fair playing field when forced to compete against biological men,\u201d Gleim said.<\/p>\n<p>State Rep. Joseph Hohenstein, who claims his child identifies as transgender, said the bill is a \u201csolution looking for a problem,\u201d the report states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis piece of legislation attacks my child and others like them simply because of who they are and how they choose to express their humanity,\u201d Hohenstein said.<\/p>\n<p>Republicans passed the bill just a few days after a group of Olympic and NCAA champions joined together to<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/sports\/2022\/04\/10\/do-we-have-voice-olympic-ncaa-champions-demand-ncaa-protect-womens-sports\/\"> release<\/a> a letter demanding action to protect women\u2019s sports in the wake of Thomas\u2019 major victories.\u00a0Nearly 40 retired swimmers, including several Olympians, former NCAA champions, and even a USA Swimming team director, and others all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/sports\/more-sports\/olympic-and-ncaa-champions-demand-action-to-protect-women-s-swimming-says-ncaa-s-response-is-not-good-enough\/ar-AAW3oRn?ocid=msedgntp&#038;cvid=1fa452b5c7864e2cbbdd4c928a6a3e39\">raise<\/a> serious questions about the NCAA\u2019s rules governing transgender athletes, according to MSN.com.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Lia Thomas just took first place at the 2022 NCAA Division 1 Women&#8217;s Swimming &#038; Diving Championships in the 500 freestyle. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/SaveWomensSports?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#SaveWomensSports<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/UWvDQMYHRJ\">pic.twitter.com\/UWvDQMYHRJ<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Colin Wright (@SwipeWright) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/SwipeWright\/status\/1504586948400369671?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">March 17, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s hard to express the anguish the women\u2019s swim community has experienced this past week watching the 2022 NCAA Swim &#038; Dive Championships,\u201d the letter states.<\/p>\n<p>Former NCAA champion Marshi Smith told Fox News that the group decided to speak out now because \u201cindividually we felt like we didn\u2019t have a voice. We weren\u2019t being asked our opinions or possible solutions to what was going on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Besides ordering schools to designate sports teams as male, female, coed, or mixed, the bill would also ensure any student \u201cdeprived of an athletic opportunity or who suffers a direct or indirect harm\u201d as a result of a known violation, may sue the school or college, according to the bill\u2019s text. Students who are retaliated against for reporting a law violation may also sue the offending school, institution, or athletic association or organization.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, a school or institution of higher education that suffers harm may sue the offending g<span>overnment entity, licensing or accrediting organization, or athletic association or organization.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><em>Katherine Hamilton is a political reporter for Breitbart News.
