I said, so does that mean he has to stay home and wait for death?\u201d desperate Shanghai resident Wang Zhumin said after seeking dialysis for her 77-year-old father.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Shen Ruiyin, a 77-year- old Shanghai resident, died on the evening of March 28 due to heart failure caused by going without kidney dialysis for a prolonged period.<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/rErC1JyJR4\">https:\/\/t.co\/rErC1JyJR4<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Radio Free Asia (@RadioFreeAsia) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RadioFreeAsia\/status\/1513676270273372163?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 12, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Wang said her father needs three dialysis treatments per week but has now gone for seven days without one. (AP Photo\/Chen Si)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>RFA found Shanghai social media filled with pleas for \u201chelp from somewhere, anywhere.\u201d Some of those people died without the help they desperately needed:<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><span>Shen Ruiyin, a 77-year- old Shanghai resident, died on the evening of March 28 due to heart failure caused by going without kidney dialysis for a prolonged period. His son Shen Li took to Weibo to complain that his father had been transferred between three difference hospitals after testing positive for COVID-19 on March 26.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>He died alone in the hospital, with no family at his side, without the medication he needed, and with no dialysis, Shen Li wrote.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Qi Guoyong, a 79 -year-old Shanghai resident, lost his wife Zhang Siling at the end of March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI am very saddened by the death of my wife, but I can\u2019t do anything about it,\u201d Qi told RFA. \u201cI hope the hospital can give me some kind of answer \u2026 I just want them to give me an explanation.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>RFA also found asthma patients who died after they were refused treatment, and severely or terminally ill patients told to wait weeks for urgent procedures. These ill patients and their caregivers must additionally deal with the shortages of food overwhelming Shanghai. According to Taiwanese media, some 30 million Chinese truck drivers have been stranded on the roads due to lockdowns, many of them carrying loads of food and medicine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Shanghai\u2019s imprisoned population has turned to crowdsourcing medical care from each other, using social media to ask for medical advice, tips for navigating the city\u2019s panicked bureaucracy, and pointers for finding much-needed medication.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Reuters<\/span><span> on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/china\/shanghai-patients-crowdsource-medical-help-during-covid-lockdown-2022-04-12\/\">reported<\/a> on a man who was able to use chat rooms to locate a pharmacy that could supply his father\u2019s medicine.
