He was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to the SPD.<\/p>\n<p>He was subsequently identified as Jose Adolfo Rangel, 28.<\/p>\n<p>On-scene investigators confirmed Rangel was tampering with the vehicle at the time of the collision.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The driver of the vehicle spoke with officers at the scene.<\/p>\n<p>Police said on Monday afternoon detectives <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sacbee.com\/news\/local\/crime\/article260327570.html\">believe<\/a> the man who died was tampering with the vehicle to steal its catalytic converter before the collision.<\/p>\n<p>A catalytic converter is an exhaust emission control device that converts toxic gases and pollutants in exhaust gas from an internal combustion engine into less-toxic pollutants by catalyzing a redox reaction.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20629037\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1233979316.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-20629037\" src=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1233979316-1024x569-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"990\" height=\"550\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\"><em>Officers from Los Angeles County Sheriffs Department help guide a driver and vehicle onto RV levelling ramps, to have its catalytic converter engraved with a traceable number, on July 14, 2021, in City of Industry, California.
