The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10709547\/California-proposes-four-day-work-week-companies-500-employees-forcing-overtime.html?fr=operanews\">impact<\/a> would increase hourly wages by approximately 25%, with overtime pay potentially adding additional costs in wages.<\/p>\n<p>About 2,600 companies statewide would fall within the category being considered.<\/p>\n<p>California Democratic Assemblywoman Cristina Garcia, a co-sponsor of the bill, said employees don\u2019t want to go back to normal following the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019ve seen over 47 million people voluntarily leave their jobs for better opportunities. We\u2019re seeing a labor shortage across the board from small to big businesses,\u201d Garcia <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2022\/04\/12\/california-legislation-4-day-work-week\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">told<\/a> Fortune. \u201cAnd so it\u2019s very clear that employees don\u2019t want to go back to normal or the old way, but to rethink and go back to [something] better.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The California Chamber of Commerce opposes the new bill, arguing it would be a job killer across the state.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSignificantly increases labor costs by imposing an overtime pay requirement after 32 hours and other requirements that are impossible to comply with, exposing employers to litigation under the Private Attorneys General Act (PAGA),\u201d the chamber said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/advocacy.calchamber.com\/policy\/bill-tracking\/2022-job-killers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">press release<\/a> regarding AB-2932.<\/p>\n<p>Chamber President and CEO Jennifer Barrera also criticized the bill as one of those harmful to the state\u2019s economy, arguing it will \u201churt job creation\u201d across California.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCalifornia companies are the economic engine that drives innovation and job creation in our state and are responsible for the record revenues the state is currently experiencing,\u201d Barrera said in the press release.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet, the bills on this year\u2019s job killer list reflect a lack of appreciation of the economic realities and regulatory challenges employers\u2014and especially small business employers\u2014face as they continue to emerge from the impacts of this pandemic. A shrinking workforce coupled with California\u2019s oppressive legal climate, penchant for overregulation, and continued push for even higher taxes, will hamper the ability of California companies to remain competitive in the future. This year\u2019s job killer list highlights policies that will hurt job creation and will shut down or reduce investment in our economy,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p>As pandemic restrictions have eased, many companies expect their workers back in the office. The expectation may be more difficult than anticipated. The Daily Wire previously <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/upwards-of-40-of-workers-are-thinking-about-quitting-their-jobs-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>But according to a survey by tech job market platform Hackajob, 86% of workers want to keep doing their jobs from home, City A.M. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityam.com\/in-the-office-full-time-no-thanks-say-86-per-cent-of-tech-professionals\/\">reports<\/a>. \u201cOnly 14 percent of the 1,700 tech professionals surveyed want to go back to a company office full-time, while around one in four would like to work remote permanently.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>But the workers are OK with a compromise: 60% are happy to drop into the office once in a while and spend the rest of time working from home.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cHybrid working is the new deal breaker for tech professionals,\u201d said Mark Chaffey, co-founder and CEO of Hackajob.\u00a0\u201cAlthough working from home may not have been the easiest for individuals this past year, tech professionals clearly find the value in not being in the office every day.
