The panel noted that those seeking a challenge should have pursued administrative remedies under civil service law.<\/p>\n<p>The 2\u20131 win paves the way toward the reinstatement of the federal COVID-19 vaccine mandate, while the Justice Department has requested that the New Orleans-based appellate court take \u201cappropriate steps so that the government may resume implementation and enforcement\u201d of the mandate.<\/p>\n<p>The judgment is set to take effect on May 31, but the recent request would move up the timeline for speedy mandate renewal. The department argued that the urgency is \u201cjustified by the serious ongoing harm to the public interest and to the government.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Joe Biden initiated the executive order on Sept. 9, mandating that all 3.5 million government employees get vaccinated against COVID-19, with exemptions for religious and medical reasons, or face disciplinary action, including termination.<\/p>\n<p>Soon after the mandate was issued, the administration was hit with lawsuits as numerous organizations and individuals challenged it, including Feds for Medical Freedom, a grassroots coalition that filed the lawsuit.<\/p>\n<p>According to the White House, more than 93 percent of federal employees have received at least one vaccination, and 98 percent have been vaccinated or are seeking a religious or medical exemption.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Ashish Jha, White House COVID-19 response coordinator, said the federal mask mandate\u2014applicable to public transportation, transit hubs, airports, and airplanes\u2014could be extended beyond its current April 18 deadline.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a [CDC] decision, and I think it is absolutely on the table,\u201d Jha told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TODAYshow\/status\/1513479635253837826\">the \u201cTODAY\u201d show<\/a>\u00a0on April 11, noting that the White House\u2019s decision would be based on the \u201cframework that the CDC scientists create.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has been criticized for publishing confusing and sometimes contradictory messages regarding COVID-19 policies. During the spread of the Delta coronavirus variant last year, Walensky\u2019s statement regarding <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theepochtimes.com\/mkt_morningbrief\/cdc-director-vaccinated-people-dont-need-to-wear-masks-amid-delta-covid-19-variant-fears_3881066.html\">wearing masks<\/a> for vaccinated individuals initially opposed the World Health Organization\u2019s guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Jha said an announcement regarding the mask mandate would be made in \u201cthe next few days.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The BA.2 Omicron coronavirus subvariant currently accounts for <a href=\"https:\/\/covid.cdc.gov\/covid-data-tracker\/#variant-proportions\">72.2 percent <\/a>of all COVID-19 cases in the United States and is more transmissible than the original variant.
