Greg Abbott\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/04\/07\/texas-governor-pledges-to-bus-illegal-immigrants-to-nations-capital\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0at a Wednesday press conference.<\/p>\n<p>That may not resolve the issue, but at least it sends a message to Washington that this is a Washington-caused crisis that\u2019s becoming intolerable for beleaguered border states.<\/p>\n<p>In<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kiiitv.com\/article\/news\/local\/texas\/governor-abbott-to-direct-dps-to-detain-deport-migrants-along-texas-border\/503-f3068d12-18c9-463b-bd1e-a0d124f3d844\">\u00a0response<\/a>\u00a0to the Texas governor, a White House spokesman said that \u201cenforcement of our country\u2019s immigration laws lies with the federal government, not a state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/nc-congressman-introduces-bill-to-restart-building-border-wall\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NC Congressman Introduces Bill To Restart Building Border Wall<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At this point, however, \u201cenforcement\u201d seems like a poor choice of a word for describing what the Biden administration is doing at the border.<\/p>\n<p>The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently announced it would revoke Title 42, a public health policy that has been one of the few effective tools to control the massive flow of illegal immigrants that began when Biden became president on Jan. 20, 2021.<\/p>\n<p>The administrative rule, set for revocation May 23, was created by President Donald Trump\u2019s administration and allowed for the rapid deportation of illegal immigrants coming from countries with an active COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<div id=\"subscribe\" class=\"email-signup inarticle\">\n<h4>Support Conservative Voices!<\/h4>\n<h5><strong>Sign up to receive the latest<\/strong> political news, insight, and commentary delivered directly to your inbox.<\/h5>\n<\/div>\n<p>Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dhs.gov\/news\/2022\/04\/01\/statement-secretary-mayorkas-cdcs-title-42-order-termination\">\u00a0said<\/a>\u00a0in a statement that the administration plans to deport illegal immigrants regardless of the rule change, but given what\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/03\/30\/biden-wants-blank-check-to-fund-open-borders-immigration-priorities\/\">happened<\/a>\u00a0in the past year, it\u2019s hard to take that promise seriously.<\/p>\n<p>As I<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/03\/29\/border-crisis-is-about-to-get-a-lot-worse\/\">\u00a0wrote<\/a>\u00a0just before the Biden administration announced its intention to drop the rule, we are already looking at a huge, protracted problem at the border, a problem that the federal government has greatly exacerbated.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/gop-states-sue-as-biden-adm-lifts-title-42-order-expected-to-create-surge-of-illegal-immigrants-at-border\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">GOP States Sue As Biden Adm. Lifts Title 42 Order, Expected To Create Surge Of Illegal Immigrants At Border<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Since Biden became president, there\u2019s been an explosion of crossings at the southern border, the likes of which we haven\u2019t seen in decades. Ending Title 42 removes one of the few brakes on what has become a floodtide of migrants illegally pouring into the United States.<\/p>\n<p>How bad is it going to get? It\u2019s hard to say precisely, but given that we are already sustaining record numbers of border crossings, the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/03\/29\/border-crisis-is-about-to-get-a-lot-worse\/\">\u00a0next wave could be historic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In the past year alone, the Border Patrol has logged more than<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/03\/19\/biden-just-set-another-worst-ever-record-at-border\/\">\u00a02 million<\/a>\u00a0encounters with illegal immigrants at the border. In February alone, the Department of Homeland Security registered 164,973 illegal immigrants apprehended at the border, the highest number for a February since it began recording numbers.<\/p>\n<p>Currently,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/politics\/border-patrol-agents-migrant-wave-title-42\">\u00a0more than half<\/a>\u00a0of all illegal border crossing encounters end up as Title 42 expulsions, according to the Border Patrol. On top of that, many more migrants will be encouraged to make the border crossing, knowing that the rule has been lifted.<\/p>\n<p>The Department of Homeland Security has said that it is planning to process about<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/18-000-migrants-a-day-will-cross-border-after-title-42-rescinded-house-gop-says\">\u00a018,000 migrants a day<\/a>, double the current number. That\u2019s more than double the current volume. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FoxNews?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@FoxNews<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/8Or3KCEUP0\">pic.twitter.com\/8Or3KCEUP0<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Bill Melugin (@BillFOXLA) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BillFOXLA\/status\/1512163790028161029?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The Border Patrol is stretched to its limits, and border states are<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2022\/04\/06\/immigration-experts-back-lawmaker-in-decrying-bidens-reckless-plan-for-border\/\">\u00a0swamped with the responsibility<\/a>\u00a0of handling a humanitarian crisis that\u2019s apparently about to get much worse.<\/p>\n<p>Even some Democrats are fretting about the consequences of the policy change.<\/p>\n<p>Arizona\u2019s two Democratic senators, Kyrsten Sinema and Mark Kelly, already\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kelly.senate.gov\/press-releases\/sens-kelly-and-sinema-on-the-biden-administrations-decision-to-end-title-42\/\">have expressed their opposition<\/a>, and others are now joining in.<\/p>\n<p>Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., hardly a moderate, released a statement saying that he\u2019s also against ending Title 42 at this time. Kelly and Warnock both are up for reelection in November.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">NEW from Sen. That has been the case consistently since he entered office. One border enforcement policy after another has been jettisoned by his administration as the crisis has intensified.<\/p>\n<p>Talk-radio host Buck Sexton highlighted this reality in a piece for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/opinion\/biden-illegal-immigrant-crisis-buck-sexton\">Fox News<\/a>, writing:<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote\">\n<p>Biden came into office calling for a 100-day moratorium on all deportations. Over the past year, interior enforcement of immigration laws has been almost entirely turned off, part of the systematic abuse of executive branch \u201cprosecutorial discretion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President Biden chose to end the \u201cRemain in Mexico\u201d policy of his predecessor, President Trump, which had proven effective in re-establishing control of the border from illegal migrants\u2019 rampant abuse of American asylum laws.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>And now the administration intends to end Title 42.<\/p>\n<p>If the Biden administration was just dropping the policy because it was acknowledging that the COVID-19 pandemic was over, then why continue the student loan repayment moratorium, which will now<a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/04\/06\/1091018301\/student-loan-pause-extended\">\u00a0extend to the end of August<\/a>? Why keep a whole host of other COVID-19<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/us\/us-court-reinstates-biden-federal-employee-covid-vaccine-mandate-2022-04-07\/\">\u00a0policies<\/a>\u00a0in place?<\/p>\n<p>Just weeks ago, Biden<a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/speeches-remarks\/2022\/03\/30\/remarks-by-president-biden-on-the-status-of-the-countrys-fight-against-covid-19\/\">\u00a0announced<\/a>\u00a0that the pandemic wasn\u2019t over and launched a new government website on COVID-19.<\/p>\n<p>The bottom line is that the Biden administration is selective and arbitrary in how it treats the issue.<\/p>\n<p><strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/thepoliticalinsider.com\/report-border-agents-are-bracing-for-disaster-expect-170000-illegal-immigrants-in-just-one-month\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report: Border Agents Are Bracing For \u2018Disaster,\u2019 Expect 170,000 Illegal Immigrants In Just One Month<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Three states have<a href=\"https:\/\/thehill.com\/latino\/3258301-three-gop-states-sue-over-end-of-title-42\/\">\u00a0joined in a lawsuit<\/a>\u00a0to halt the administration\u2019s order on Title 42.
