Ted Budd (R-NC).<\/p>\n<p>Budd spoke to <em>Breitbart News Saturday<\/em> ahead of Trump\u2019s rally in Selma, North Carolina, where the former president spoke in support of him. Trump\u2019s stamp of approval has become \u201cnow the most sought after thing in politics,\u201d Trump\u2019s senior advisor Lynne Patton <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/10\/exclusive-trump-senior-adviser-lynne-patton-trump-endorsement-most-sought-after-thing-politics\/\">said<\/a>\u00a0\u2014his endorsement of Budd has already contributed to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/06\/poll-rep-ted-budd-leads-anti-trump-rino-pat-mccrory-in-north-carolina-u-s-senate-primary\/\">double-digit lead<\/a> in the polls ahead of former Gov. Pat McCrory (R) and former Rep. Mark Walker (R-NC).<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cI would say it goes back to what President Trump told me moments before he endorsed me on June 6 of last year. He said, \u2018I\u2019m endorsing you because you have never wavered on \u2018America First\u2019 principles,\u201d\u2018 Budd told\u00a0Breitbart News\u2019s D.C. Bureau Chief Matthew Boyle.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cPlus, they realize I\u2019m the reliable \u2018America First\u2019 conservative. I support second amendment rights. They know I\u2019m a small business person. I\u2019m Trump-endorsed. I\u2019m the strongest conservative on the ballot, and that\u2019s why they\u2019re endorsing me \u2014 that\u2019s why my <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/07\/poll-rep-ted-budd-leads-with-north-carolina-trump-republicans-gop-voters-in-u-s-senate-primary\/\">polls<\/a> are going up,\u201d Budd continued.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Budd discussed how \u201cAmerica First\u201d principles should specifically influence two areas voters have consistently said are crucial in the midterm elections: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/22\/survey-fair-elections-top-issue-facing-the-country-coronavirus-sinks\/\">immigration and election integrity<\/a>. The Senate hopeful, who has also been <a href=\"https:\/\/tedbudd.com\/border-patrol-endorses-ted-budd\/\">endorsed<\/a> by the National Border Patrol Council, talked about the\u00a0<\/span><span>\u201c<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/budd.house.gov\/uploadedfiles\/build_the_wall_now_act.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">Build the Wall Now Act<\/a>,\u201d which he introduced last week. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/08\/gop-rep-ted-budd-introduces-bill-to-remove-red-tape-unlock-funding-for-border-wall-construction\/\">legislation <\/a><\/span><span>would \u201cremove all legal impediments\u201d to build the border wall and unlock $2.1 billion in unspent funding appropriated for its construction.<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p><em><strong>LISTEN:<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to finish the wall, but we also need administration that has these border patrol agents back,\u201d Budd noted.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, Budd said the border wall needs to be finished to help curtail the massive amounts of fentanyl being trafficked into the United States. Notably, the\u00a0Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/08\/dea-issues-warning-on-u-s-fentanyl-overdose-influx-drug-2021\/\">recently warned<\/a> federal, state, and local law enforcement of an impending nationwide spike in fentanyl-related \u201cmass overdose events\u201d and reported the amount of the drug infiltrating into the United States in 2021 was enough \u201cto kill every American.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re losing as many people in one year as we lost in 10 years in the Vietnam War \u2014 about 70,000 people. It\u2019s the biggest [leading cause of death] between 18 and 45. But for the first time, we were able to bend that curve downward for the first time in recorded history, under President Trump,\u201d he said.<b>\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cNow under Biden, that number has gone back up. So we need to get back to \u2018America First\u2019 principles \u2014 border security. So much of this is coming in [from] China, ingredients [made] in China, manufactured in Mexico, coming up through our border as fake pills,\u201d the congressman continued. \u201cA lot of people think they\u2019re taking a knock off Xanax or something like that, and then all of a sudden they realize it\u2019s got fentanyl, and they are dead. It\u2019s just tragic what\u2019s happening. So we need border security, and we also need to prevent illegal diversions in the supply chain. Those are some things we did under President Trump.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As far as fighting for election integrity, Budd said,\u00a0<span>\u201cthe mindset that we have to approach this with is to make it easy to vote and hard to cheat.\u201d The congressman emphasized the importance of state legislatures cracking down on voter fraud and passing streamlined election integrity laws.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI want to say, in the U.S. Constitution, it really puts the onus on state legislature, and for us in North Carolina, the general assembly to make the lion\u2019s share of the changes regarding election laws,\u201d he said. \u201cTheir Republican legislature, since 2010, they have repeatedly passed voter ID [laws] and the liberal activist courts \u2014 which by the way, we\u2019re getting ready to take that back over here in North Carolina \u2014 but the liberal activist courts have struck down the will of the people and struck down voter ID. So let\u2019s get back to voter ID. Let\u2019s use traditional absentee ballots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Budd also slammed Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/01\/mark-zuckerberg-attempts-to-dismiss-documentary-exposing-his-400-million-effort-to-elect-biden\/\">using hundreds of millions of dollars<\/a> to privately boost now-President Joe Biden and Democrats in the 2020 election \u2014 a story that has gotten a significant amount of attention since Citizens United <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/04\/06\/exclusive-trump-rigged-premiere-shouldnt-be-allowed-mark-zuckerberg-privately-finance-election-operations\/\">came out with a documentary film<\/a> detailing the tech tycoon\u2019s heavy influence in far-left politics.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDemocrats don\u2019t want accountability because they know they can\u2019t win elections on their woke left agenda. So they get people like Mark Zuckerberg to do an end-run around the will of the people,\u201d Budd said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe have to push back in the state in the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate against federalizing elections.
