Among other complaints, the shareholders are deeply concerned by the \u201cdystopian downsides\u201d of Zuckerberg\u2019s much-heralded Metaverse.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<em>New York Post<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2022\/04\/10\/meta-shareholders-slam-zuckerberg-question-dystopian-downsides\/\">reports<\/a>\u00a0that a group of Facebook (now known as Meta) shareholders are deeply angered by CEO Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s leadership as the company\u2019s shares have plummeted by 34 percent. (Photo by JOSH EDELSON \/ AFP) (Photo by JOSH EDELSON\/AFP via Getty Images)\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg\u00a0 (Photo by JOSH EDELSON\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In an effort to garner support for the resolutions, the corporate accountability group SumOfUs which is currently working with activist investors is sending a report to over 4,000 investors with stakes in Facebook, including firms such as Vanguard, Fidelity, and BlackRock.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>The report was obtained by the\u00a0<em>New York Post<\/em> and describes three crises \u201cengulfing\u201d Meta. The crises include <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/02\/14\/recode-apple-wrecked-facebooks-ad-business-with-commonsense-privacy-changes\/\">privacy restrictions by Apple and Google<\/a> that have had a negative impact on Meta\u2019s advertising business, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2022\/03\/12\/eu-uk-launch-antitrust-probes-over-google-and-facebooks-secret-jedi-blue-deal-to-dominate-ad-market\/\">ongoing antitrust lawsuits and regulatory bills targeting Facebook<\/a>, and allegations that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2021\/09\/14\/wsj-facebooks-internal-documents-show-company-knows-instagram-is-terrible-for-teen-girls\/\">Zuckerberg lied to investors and lawmakers about Instagram\u2019s harmful side effects on teens.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The investors allege that these issues arose under Zuckerberg\u2019s leadership and that he has failed to prove that his Metaverse idea is anything more than a\u00a0\u201crushed attempt to divert attention from fundamental issues with Meta\u2019s core business.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Christina O\u2019Connell, SumOfUs\u2019s shareholder engagement advisor, commented that the major drop in stock price should signal to investors that a change needs to be made.\u00a0\u201cWhen you see a loss of over $230 billion in February, that shakes up everybody, and that should be a sign that it\u2019s time for change,\u201d O\u2019Connell said.<\/p>\n<p>She went on to say: \u201cThere\u2019s a real concern that given the amount of problems we\u2019ve seen with the company, that the committee is not managing the company\u2019s behavior and performance very well. We would like to see an independent analysis of how that committee is functioning.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Discussing the idea of the metaverse, O\u2019Connell stated:\u00a0\u201cMeta has been unable to manage its problems here now in the world where we\u2019re all living, so it\u2019s pretty shocking that they want to move into a more complex platform such as the metaverse.
