Psaki, speaking to reporters during a press briefing Monday, blamed Russian President Vladimir Putin for the incoming \u201celevated\u201d numbers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause of the actions were taken to address the \u2018Putin Price Hike,\u2019 we are in a better place than we were last month, but we expect March \u2026 CPI headline inflation to be extraordinarily elevated due to \u2018Putin\u2019s Price Hike\u2019, and we expect a large difference between core and headline inflation, reflecting the global disruptions in energy and food markets,\u201d Psaki said.<\/p>\n<p>The administration adopted the term \u201cPutin Price Hike\u201d upon <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/08\/joe-biden-ban-russian-oil-invasion-ukraine\/\">announcing<\/a> a ban on new imports of Russian oil earlier in March due to Russia\u2019s invasion of Ukraine. Since the announcement, administration <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/putin-gas-price-hike-psaki-pins-russia-oil-companies-gas-prices\/\">officials<\/a> have tied high gas prices to Putin\u2019s war on Ukraine \u2013 though the U.S. has seen inflation far prior to Russia invading Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cJust as an example, since President Putin\u2019s military buildup accelerated in January, average gas prices are up more than 80 cents. Most of the increase occurred in the month of March, and at times gas prices were more than one dollar above pre-invasions levels,\u201d Psaki said on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, that roughly 25% increase in gas prices will drive tomorrow\u2019s inflation reading, and certainly it\u2019s not a surprise to us, but we certainly think it will be reflected,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WATCH:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Psaki also reiterated that inflation numbers serve as \u201ca reminder to us \u2026 that we need to do more to reduce costs for the American people,\u201d mentioning legislation that the administration says \u201ccould do exactly that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The administration has been pressed its latest <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/09\/white-house-rebrands-rising-gas-prices-putin-price-hike\/\">rebranding<\/a>, with multiple reporters pointing out the ever-changing reasons for high gas prices coming from the White House. The \u201cPutin\u2019s price hike\u201d narrative also coincides with a push from the administration to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/11\/17\/joe-biden-federal-trade-commission-gasoline-prices-big-oil\/\">blame oil companies<\/a>\u00a0as well. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/putin-gas-price-hike-psaki-pins-russia-oil-companies-gas-prices\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: \u2018Putin\u2019s Gas Price Hike\u2019: Psaki Pins Russia And U.S. Oil Companies For Rising Gas Prices)\u00a0<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In March,\u00a0Fox News White House correspondent Peter <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/10\/blame-putin-peter-doocy-jen-psaki-inflation-gas-prices\/\">Doocy<\/a> pointed out that Biden previously blamed rising gas prices on \u201cthe supply chain and \u2026 post-pandemic demand.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly,\u00a0Fox Business White House <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/09\/doocy-presses-psaki-blaming-russia-gas-prices\/\">correspondent<\/a> Edward Lawrence noted that gas prices had been rising far before Russia invaded Ukraine.<\/p>\n<p>Psaki, at the time, maintained that\u00a0\u201cthere\u2019s widespread consensus that the sharp run of energy prices since January was caused by the building of Putin\u2019s troops at Ukraine\u2019s border.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe last two years there was a global pandemic,\u201d Psaki also said in March. \u201cEveryone who is a global economist have all agreed that has been the biggest contributor, to date, of inflation, because of the impact on the supply chain. Obviously global events impact the economy \u2014 the global economy \u2014 as well as global inflation.
