(Painesville Police Department)<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><span>Thompson, and Tycast, who cannot swim, rushed into the pond and saved the four-year-old. After extracting him from the water, they conducted CPR until Tycast noticed the child was breathing, according to WEWS-TV.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cThere was no hesitation,\u201d Tycast told WJW. \u201cNo time to react, no time to think. You see what you have to do and you go do it.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p><span>The child has since fully recovered, but he likely would have become brain dead had another 15 seconds expired, paramedics said, according to the outlet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The officers were two of three heroes set to be recognized during the Heroes for Andy event at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights Saturday night, the <em>News-Herald<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.news-herald.com\/2022\/04\/07\/andy-nowacki-foundation-to-honor-three-heroes-award-six-scholarships\/\">reported<\/a>. The event is in honor of Andy Nowacki, a Marine and police officer who was killed \u201cwhile protecting a convoy during Operation Iraqi Freedom\u201d in February 2005, the Andy Nowacki Foundation\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/nowackischolarship.org\/\">states<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span> \u201cMost people are not aware that first responders and military, their main purpose is to protect people and make people safe,\u201d Andy\u2019s\u00a0mother, Sheila Nowacki, told WJW.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The Andy Nowacki Foundation provides \u201cmeaningful scholarships <\/span><span>to those seeking to who serve their communities as peace officers, firefighters, EMTs, or nurses,\u201d according to the foundation\u2019s website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cScholarship recipients are chosen based on a combination of community involvement, dedication to service, grade point average and strong moral character,\u201d the foundation notes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Sheila told WJW that granting scholarships to those who share Andy\u2019s level of care and empathy for the community is among the best ways to honor her son\u2019s legacy.
