Ron DeSantis signed a bill on Monday to provide more than $70 million to support fatherhood in his state.<\/p>\n<p>DeSantis penned the recently passed bill during a live stream video on Monday morning.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Governor DeSantis signs legislation that will provide more than $70 million to support fatherhood. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/uXDPga790v\">https:\/\/t.co\/uXDPga790v<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Ron DeSantis (@GovRonDeSantis) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/GovRonDeSantis\/status\/1513518576228978688?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 11, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.myfloridahouse.gov\/Sections\/Bills\/billsdetail.aspx?BillId=76658&#038;SessionId=93\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Bill 7065<\/a>, passed in the state\u2019s Senate in March unanimously following a 117-0 unanimous vote in the House.<\/p>\n<p>The bill will require \u201cthe Department of Children and Families and Department of Juvenile Justice to identify and meet the needs of dually-involved children within a specified timeframe; revising information that must be included in a transition plan; requiring prenatal and infant health care delivery programs to include certain father engagement activities; requiring the Department of Children and Families to contract for the development and implementation of the Responsible Fatherhood Initiative and to provide grants to community-based not-for-profit organizations to offer certain mentorship programs; designating the month of June as \u2018Responsible Fatherhood Month.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor acknowledged the law would not solve all of the state\u2019s problems regarding fatherhood, but spoke strongly regarding the impact it could have for dads across Florida.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis bill has huge ramifications for someone to reach their God-given potential,\u201d DeSantis said during the bill\u2019s signing.<\/p>\n<p>Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls (R) led the bill going into the legislative session.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFrom poverty to crime to incarceration, just about every negative outcome we see that faces boys here in Florida and across the country, can be linked back to an absent father in the home,\u201d Sprowls\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/capitaloutlook.com\/site\/house-targets-fatherhood-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Last month Senate President \u2066<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/WiltonSimpson?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">@WiltonSimpson<\/a>\u2069 and Senators stood on the historic Capitol steps committing with the House to address the fatherhood crisis and transform the lives of our kids in the process. The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/desantis-signs-bill-to-guarantee-visitation-rights-for-patients-and-their-family-members\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><em>SB 988, the No Patient Left Alone Act, allows a resident, client, or patient the option to designate a visitor who is a family member, friend, guardian, or another person as an essential caregiver, according to a statement from the governor\u2019s office. \u201cThe provider must allow in-person visitation by the essential caregiver for at least two hours daily in addition to any other visitation authorized by the provider,\u201d the text of the bill states.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThroughout the pandemic, the federal government has waived protections for families to visit their loved ones in hospitals and long-term care facilities.
