Rock declined to press charges against the actor, the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>The meme, posted March 28 on Facebook, includes a collage of images that feature singer John Legend, actor Meryl Streep, former WWE wrestler and actor Dwayne \u201cThe Rock\u201d Johnson and other actors exhibiting seemingly alarmed and shocked looks. The caption of the post claims all of the photos were taken shortly after Smith hit Rock on stage. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2020\/10\/06\/fact-check-dwayne-johnson-lose-48-million-twitter-followers-biden-endorsment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Did Dwayne \u2018The Rock\u2019 Johnson Lose 48 Million Twitter Followers After Endorsing Joe Biden For President?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>However, all of the images in the post predate the incident between Smith and Rock. An internet search reveals all the images originate from the 2017 Academy Awards following the mistaken announcement that \u201cLa La Land\u201d had won Best Picture honors. The film \u201cMoonlight\u201d was announced as the true winner of the Best Picture award less than three minutes after the first mistaken announcement, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/movies\/movie-features\/they-got-wrong-envelope-oral-history-oscars-epic-best-picture-fiasco-1087829\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hollywood Reporter<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Legend\u2019s expression can be seen in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=p-I6x_iPF5o&#038;t=97s\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">YouTube video<\/a> that features the announcement of the correct winner. The image of actress Emma Stone appeared in a 2017 Reuters <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-awards-oscars\/pwc-accountants-blamed-for-oscar-gaffe-barred-from-future-shows-idUSKBN1685N8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">report<\/a>, while a Mashable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/meryl-streeps-hilarious-reaction-oscars-123544106.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> that same year included the picture of Streep. Actors Matt Damon, Salma Hayek, Michelle Williams and Johnson\u2019s images were originally part of a photo that the Los Angeles Times <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/latimes\/status\/836203030555013121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posted on Twitter<\/a> in February 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The Associated Press published larger versions of the photo showing actors <a href=\"https:\/\/www.apimages.com\/metadata\/Index\/APTOPIX-89th-Academy-Awards-Show\/cf73e37105894deda566b3e0397cf6cd\/34\/0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ryan Gosling<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/entertainment\/oscars-academy-pwc-apology-1.4002476\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jaden Piner<\/a>, which were taken on Feb. 26, 2017. The image of Mel Gibson was part of an Insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insider.com\/oscars-moonlight-best-picture-reactions-2017-2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">article<\/a> released the same day. The New York Times also <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/nytimes\/status\/836096042751967233\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweeted<\/a> a photo that day containing the pictures of actors David Oyelowo and Charlize Theron. Actor Trevante Rhodes and director Barry Jenkins\u2019 images were part of a photo displayed in a <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/courtenlow\/status\/836229596458680320\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweet<\/a> by journalist Courtney Enlow.<\/p>\n<p>After hitting the comedian, Smith received an Academy Award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Richard Williams in the film \u201cKing Richard,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/03\/27\/1088837423\/will-smith-wins-best-actor-first-oscar-king-richard\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">NPR<\/a>.
