I enjoyed a good proud cry today.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"instagram-media\" data-instgrm-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/Cakti1iP8Xa\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;utm_campaign=loading\" data-instgrm-version=\"14\"><\/blockquote>\n<p>The \u201cEmployee of The Month\u201d star has been open in the past about her personal struggles with everything from weight loss to sobriety in her memoir \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Open-Book-Jessica-Simpson\/dp\/0062899961\">Open Book<\/a>,\u201d which came out in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday my heart breaks because people say I\u2019m fat,\u201d one entry read, <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/health\/jessica-simpson-says-she-has-every-size-of-jeans-doesnt-let-scale-number-define-weight-loss\/\">reported<\/a> People magazine in 2021 about an incident in 2009. \u201cWhy does the cruel opinion of this world get to me?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In another entry noted by the <a href=\"https:\/\/people.com\/books\/jessica-simpson-open-book-memoir-revelations\/?slide=7632056#7632056\">magazine<\/a>, Jessica talked about how she \u201cno longer trusted the mirror.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWith every reflection, every single pane of glass I passed, I took myself in quickly to try to catch myself, to see what the world apparently saw.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>When later asked about that entry, the mom of three kids with husband Eric Johnson,\u00a0told \u201cToday\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TODAYshow\/status\/1387752787891589121?s=20&#038;t=SqaTuzhCEGItqVaGEqEIVA\">show<\/a> host Hoda Kotb that being open about her own struggles has helped open the conversation of body image.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is a wonderful movement for body positivity now and the response to that portion of my story has been overwhelmingly supportive,\u201d Jessica shared. \u00a0\u201cI don\u2019t think people always realized that there was a human being, a beating heart and working eyes with actual feelings behind those headlines and that words can hurt and stay with you for a lifetime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Dukes of Hazzard\u201d star last talked about her weight loss journey in September 2019 when she posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/B2zTMbUA0YO\/\">social media<\/a> about losing 100 pounds after giving birth to her daughter, Birdie, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/lifestyle\/jessica-simpson-celebrates-weight-loss-milestone-155706295.html\">reported<\/a> Yahoo.com.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c6 months. 100 pounds down (Yes, I tipped the scales at 240),\u201d the singer captioned her post. \u201cMy first trip away from #BIRDIEMAE and emotional for many reasons, but so proud to feel like myself again. Even when it felt impossible, I chose to work harder.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In November 2021, the \u201cSweetest Sin\u201d hitmaker celebrated her four years of sobriety with an image she posted on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CVvfEL1rRIV\/?utm_source=ig_embed&#038;ig_rid=f814889f-2e06-477d-827f-ef99d31b4438\">Instagram,<\/a>\u00a0the day she said she would allow herself \u201cto take back\u201d her light.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis person in the early morning of Nov 1, 2017 is an unrecognizable version of myself,\u201d she captioned the post. \u201cI had so much self discovery to unlock and explore. I knew in this very moment I would allow myself to take back my light, show victory over my\u00a0internal battle of self respect, and brave this world with piercing clarity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPersonally, to do this I needed to stop drinking alcohol because it kept my mind and heart circling in the same direction and quite honestly I was exhausted,\u201d she added. \u201cI wanted to feel the pain so I could carry it like a badge of honor. I wanted to live as a leader does and break cycles to advance forward- never looking back with regret and remorse over any choice I have made and would make for the rest of my time here within this beautiful world.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI can\u2019t believe it has been 4yrs!\u201d Simpson continued. \u201cIt feels like maybe 2. I think that is a good thing. Ha. There is so much stigma around the word alcoholism or the label of an alcoholic. The real work that needed to be done in my life was to actually accept failure, pain, brokenness, and self sabotage. The drinking wasn\u2019t the issue. I was. I didn\u2019t love myself. I didn\u2019t respect my own power. Today I do. I have made nice with the fears and I have accepted the parts of my life that are just sad. I own my personal power with soulful courage.
