The vote came after\u00a0a verdict by Pakistan\u2019s Supreme Court Thursday ruling <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1683857\/supreme-court-restores-national-assembly-orders-no-confidence-vote-to-be-held-on-saturday\">against<\/a> his administration\u2019s dismissal of the planned \u201cno-confidence\u201d vote.<\/p>\n<p>Khan had advised Pakistan President Arif Alvi to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1683230\">dissolve<\/a> Pakistan\u2019s National Assembly according to <a href=\"https:\/\/pakistani.org\/pakistan\/constitution\/amendments\/8amendment.html\">Article 58<\/a> of the Pakistan Constitution on April 3, though Pakistan\u2019s Supreme Court additionally overturned this move in its April 7 ruling, ordering the parliament to reconvene on Saturday.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Khan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dawn.com\/news\/1684027\/i-accept-supreme-courts-decision-says-pm-imran-in-address-to-nation\">said<\/a> on Friday he was \u201csaddened by\u201d but accepted the verdict by Pakistan\u2019s Supreme Court, Pakistan\u2019s <em>Dawn<\/em> newspaper reported.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am saddened by the verdict, but I accept it,\u201d the prime minister stated at the start of a nationally televised <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ImranKhanPTI\/status\/1512469110952984577?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1512469110952984577%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&#038;ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dawn.com%2Fnews%2F1684027\">address<\/a> on April 8, as quoted by the\u00a0<em>Dawn<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was foreign interference in Pakistan\u2019s [planned] no-confidence [vote]. I wanted the SC [Supreme Court] to at least look at it. Pakistan National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri on April 3\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/asia\/2022\/04\/04\/pakistan-islamist-pm-imran-khan-stops-no-confidence-vote-dissolving-parliament\/\">declared<\/a> as \u201cunconstitutional\u201d the planned \u201cno-confidence\u201d motion.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Khan on March 27 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hindustantimes.com\/world-news\/pakistan-imran-khan-blames-foreign-hand-for-trying-to-topple-his-govt-101648396749101.html\">accused<\/a> foreign forces, whom he later <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radio.gov.pk\/04-04-2022\/us-official-avoids-question-on-regime-change-conspiracy-in-pakistan\">named<\/a> as members of the U.S. State Department, of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.com\/news\/world-asia-60972186\">inciting<\/a> the \u201cno-confidence\u201d motion against him as part of an effort to enact regime change in Pakistan by ousting Khan from power.<\/p>\n<p>Suri, a close political ally of Khan, cited this alleged foreign conspiracy as his reason for declaring the \u201cno-confidence\u201d motion unconstitutional. Suri specifically termed the \u201cno-confidence\u201d motion as \u201cagainst Article 5 of the [Pakistan] Constitution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Article 5 of the Pakistan Constitution <a href=\"https:\/\/www.geo.tv\/latest\/409253-explainer-what-is-article-5-and-does-it-apply-to-the-no-trust-move\">states<\/a>, \u201cLoyalty to the State is the basic duty of every citizen\u201d and \u201cObedience to the Constitution and law is the [inviolable] obligation of every citizen wherever he may be and of every other person for the time being within Pakistan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Khan and Suri have in recent days cited an alleged letter sent from the U.S. State Department to Islamabad in which Washington \u201cthreatened\u201d to force Khan\u2019s ouster as evidence of foreign interference in the country\u2019s government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn an official document, it was said that \u2018if Imran Khan remains the prime minister, our ties will suffer and you will face difficulties,&#8217;\u201d Khan <a href=\"https:\/\/scroll.in\/latest\/1020824\/foreign-nation-behind-no-confidence-motion-pakistan-prime-minister-says-he-will-not-resign\">said<\/a> during a live, nationally televised address on March 31.\u00a0\u201cIt means that they [the Opposition] were connected with these people abroad,\u201d the prime minister alleged.<\/p>\n<p>Khan referenced this alleged written document during his nationally broadcast speech on April 8. \u201cThe SC [Supreme Court] could have at least asked for and looked at the document to gauge whether we\u2019re speaking the truth. I was a bit disappointed because this is a very big issue and there was no discussion on it in the SC,\u201d he acknowledged.<\/p>\n<p>According to the BBC, Pakistan\u2019s parliament will meet to vote for the country\u2019s new prime minister on Monday. The new prime minister is expected to be Pakistan Muslim League leader and former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif\u2019s brother, Shahbaz Sharif, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/news\/pakistans-embattled-pm-faces-tough-no-confidence-vote\/\">according<\/a> to the Associated Press.
