Mayor Muriel Bowser accused a pro-life activist Friday of \u201ctampering with fetal remains,\u201d failing to address calls from lawmakers for authorities to conduct autopsies on the bodies of aborted babies recovered from a DC abortion clinic.<\/p>\n<p>The D.C. mayor referred to Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising (PAAU) member Lauren Handy, who the FBI arrested and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/opa\/pr\/nine-defendants-indicted-federal-civil-rights-conspiracy-and-freedom-access-clinic-entrances\">indicted<\/a> (along with eight others) last week for \u201cobstructing patients and providers of a reproductive health services facility\u201d in October 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Bowser called this \u201cextremist anti-abortion activity\u201d in a letter to Republican Oklahoma Sen. James Lankford. He had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/gop-lawmakers-demand-d-c-doj-investigate-bodies-of-aborted-babies-uncovered-by-pro-life-activists\">led lawmakers in calling<\/a> on the D.C. mayor and the\u00a0Department of Justice earlier this week to perform autopsies on the bodies of five aborted babies that PAAU has said they intercepted when the clinic was attempting to send the fetal remains to Curtis Bay Medical Waste Facility.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">\u201cIn response to your letter of April 5, 2022, regarding the indictment of Lauren Handy of the Progressive\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">Anti-Abortion Uprising for extremist anti-abortion activity in the District of Columbia in 2020, and\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">relatedly, her claim of responsibility for tampering with fetal remains as reported last week, we refer your\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">questions to the United States Department of Justice,\u201d Bowser said in a Friday response to Lankford obtained by The Daily Wire.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"View MMB to Ranking Member Lankford Re His Letter of 4-5-22 Final[1] on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/568762689\/MMB-to-Ranking-Member-Lankford-Re-His-Letter-of-4-5-22-Final-1#from_embed\">MMB to Ranking Member Lankf\u2026<\/a> by <a title=\"View Mary Margaret Olohan&#039;s profile on Scribd\" href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/user\/506904601\/Mary-Margaret-Olohan#from_embed\">Mary Margaret Olohan<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">\u201cThe Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) is in consultation with the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">United States Attorney\u2019s Office\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">for\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">the District of\u00a0<span class=\"l7\">Columbia on\u00a0both matters,\u201d she said. \u201cThe above\u00a0<span class=\"l9\">referenced indictment and\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/span><span class=\"a\">Ms. Handy\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">claim of responsibility<\/span><span class=\"a\">\u00a0for March 30, 2022, and MPD<\/span><span class=\"a\">\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"a\">\u00a0discoveries are, potentially, serious violations of federal law.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"a\">\u201cThe investigation is ongoing,\u201d she added.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Bowser\u2019s office has not responded to many requests for comment from The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMayor Bowser\u2019s letter comes just after her endorsement from pro-abortion extremist group Emily\u2019s List as she pursues re-election,\u201d Handy told The Daily Wire on Saturday morning.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><\/div>\n<p>\u201cThe mayor and her pro-abortion collaborators view me as a problem that they can quickly sweep away just like they do to so many others in the DC community,\u201d she added. \u201cDespite these attacks I will continue to defend the unborn, the houseless, and all people in the margins.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) and Congressman Chris Smith (R-NJ) also sent a letter Friday to the Department of Justice and the FBI calling for an investigation into whether the abortions performed on the preterm babies violated the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are gravely concerned by allegations brought forward that suggest a preborn baby underwent a partial birth abortion at the Washington Surgi-Clinic in Washington, D.C.,\u201d the Republicans wrote in a letter, exclusively obtained by The Daily Wire, sent Friday to Attorney General Merrick Garland.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe demand that you conduct a comprehensive investigation on the circumstances surrounding the deaths of each preborn baby,\u201d they added.<\/p>\n<p>D.C. police\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=BzrHrG6BcCs\">have not only said<\/a> that the babies were aborted legally but also indicated that the potentially criminal part of the incident is how the aborted baby bodies were obtained. The nation\u2019s capital <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/features\/producers-picks\/anti-abortion-activists-publish-shocking-photos-of-fetuses-police-seized-from-capitol-hill-apartment\/65-f7742297-eab0-40eb-9895-f00f4766f505\">does not have any specific law<\/a>\u00a0that bans abortion at any point, effectively allowing abortions through nine months of pregnancy.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/i-went-to-the-clinic-of-the-dc-abortionist-accused-of-gruesome-crimes-heres-what-i-saw\">went to Washington Surgi Clinic on Thursday<\/a>, where clinic workers denied that Dr. Cesare Santangelo was in the building (though the waiting room was full of patients and The Daily Wire spoke with a woman undergoing an abortion) and refused to answer any questions.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest-growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
