{"id":1426413,"date":"2022-04-08T22:44:41","date_gmt":"2022-04-09T02:44:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/?p=1426413"},"modified":"2022-04-08T22:44:43","modified_gmt":"2022-04-09T02:44:43","slug":"america-first-policy-group-calls-on-wisconsin-legislature-to-follow-special-counsels-election-integrity-reforms","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/america-first-policy-group-calls-on-wisconsin-legislature-to-follow-special-counsels-election-integrity-reforms\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018America First\u2019 Policy Group Calls on Wisconsin Legislature to Follow Special Counsel\u2019s Election Integrity Reforms\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<aside class=\"mashsb-container mashsb-main mashsb-stretched\"><div class=\"mashsb-box\"><div class=\"mashsb-count mash-medium\" style=\"float:left\"><div class=\"counts mashsbcount\">30<\/div><span class=\"mashsb-sharetext\">SHARES<\/span><\/div><div class=\"mashsb-buttons\"><a class=\"mashicon-facebook mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/sharer.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.conservativenewsdaily.net%2Fbreaking-news%2Famerica-first-policy-group-calls-on-wisconsin-legislature-to-follow-special-counsels-election-integrity-reforms%2F\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Facebook<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mashicon-twitter mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/intent\/tweet?text=&amp;url=https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/?p=1426413&amp;via=ConservNewsDly\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Twitter<\/span><\/a><a class=\"mashicon-subscribe mash-medium mash-nomargin mashsb-noshadow\" href=\"#\" target=\"_top\" rel=\"nofollow\"><span class=\"icon\"><\/span><span class=\"text\">Subscribe<\/span><\/a><div class=\"onoffswitch2 mash-medium mashsb-noshadow\" style=\"display:none\"><\/div><\/div>\n            <\/div>\n                <div style=\"clear:both\"><\/div><\/aside>\n            <!-- Share buttons by mashshare.net - Version: 4.0.47--><div><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">The America First Policy Institute (AFPI) sent a letter to the Wisconsin legislature urging them to follow two recommendations made by Special Counsel Michael Gableman regarding election integrity.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter signed by 19 prominent conservatives, AFPI\u2019s Center for Election Integrity chairman Ken Blackwell said Gableman\u2019s recommendations are \u201cmuch-needed, pragmatic solutions that will ultimately create conditions in Wisconsin that help make it easy to vote but hard to cheat.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>Wisconsin Republicans\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisn.com\/article\/gableman-named-special-counsel\/37188518\">hired<\/a>\u00a0Gableman, a former Wisconsin supreme court justice, last fall as Special Counsel to investigate the 2020 presidential election amid concerns of voter fraud and election irregularities.<\/p>\n<p>Gableman sent the state legislature a second interim investigative\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legis.wisconsin.gov\/assembly\/22\/brandtjen\/media\/1552\/osc-second-interim-report.pdf\">report<\/a>\u00a0last month that included 26 recommendations to facilitate \u201ctransparency\u201d and \u201cpolitical accountability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Gableman\u2019s suggestions came one week after Wisconsin Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R) held what he said was likely the final legislative session day of the year.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>AFPI\u2019s letter urged the state legislature to reconvene \u201can extraordinary session for the sole purpose of using the constitutional amendment joint resolution mechanism\u201d to implement two of Gableman\u2019s recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>AFPI recommended the legislature follow Gableman\u2019s proposal to create a single statewide publicly available voter registration database.<\/p>\n<p>Blackwell wrote:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>The maintenance and ongoing use of several databases and access systems unnecessarily place an undue burden on county clerks and associated personnel in their painstaking mission to be responsible stewards of their data. Moreover, data quality and accessibility are of paramount importance in restoring voter confidence in Wisconsin elections systems, as future analysis of past data sets over time is likely to yield a more full and accurate accounting.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The institute also called on the legislature to create a government office to audit and oversee the state\u2019s elections.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>For purposes of long-term improvement in the administration of elections, this step is both necessary and proper to instill transparency and accountability in the facilitation of future statewide elections and perhaps, most importantly, would make a meaningful contribution toward the restoration of voter confidence in the state of Wisconsin.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Lastly, AFPI recommended the state legislature pass a voter identification law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFinally, we strongly recommend reconsideration of the language embedded in Assembly Joint Resolution 133 for a photo identification requirement to be added to the Wisconsin Constitution (which did not pass both Chambers in this last session),\u201d the letter said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA substantial majority of Americans nationwide (85%) support a photo identification requirement.
