A spokesperson for the Department of Defense (DOD) confirmed no official made such a statement.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span>Fact Check:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Soros released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgesoros.com\/2022\/02\/26\/we-must-stand-with-ukraine-as-they-stand-with-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">message<\/a> Feb. 26 characterizing the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin as a \u201cdirect attack on the sovereignty of all States that were once in the Soviet Union, and beyond.\u201d He went on to encourage nations to \u201cstand with Ukraine, as they stand for us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>An April 6 Facebook post claims Soros is related to Zelenskyy. The post includes images of the two men along with a caption that states, \u201cBIG: Volodymyr Zelensky is a cousin of George Soros. Pentagon official says.\u201d An April 5 <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MUBreaking\/status\/1511544534055804929\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">tweet<\/a> made the same claim, garnering over 2,000 retweets.<\/p>\n<p>The post is incorrect. None of the DOD\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.defense.gov\/News\/Releases\/?Search=George+Soros+Volodymyr+Zelenskyy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">press releases<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=Zelenskyy%20George%20Soros%20(from%3ADeptofDefense)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=top\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">social media<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/profile\/100064688230749\/search\/?q=Zelenskyy%20George%20Soros\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">posts<\/a> mention Soros being related to Zelenskyy or address the rumors. There are likewise no <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/search?q=Volodymyr+Zelensky+is+a+cousin+of+George+Soros.+Pentagon+official+says&#038;rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS820US820&#038;oq=Volodymyr+Zelensky+is+a+cousin+of+George+Soros.+Pentagon+official+says&#038;aqs=chrome..69i57.253j0j7&#038;sourceid=chrome&#038;ie=UTF-8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">credible news reports<\/a> about the alleged statement from the unnamed official.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe DOD has made no such statement,\u201d said a DOD spokesperson in an email to Check Your Fact. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/checkyourfact.com\/2022\/03\/03\/fact-check-sikh-langar-ukraine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">(RELATED: Does This Photo Show A Sikh Community Kitchen In Ukraine?)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Soros\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.georgesoros.com\/the-life-of-george-soros\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">personal website<\/a> states he was born in 1930 in Hungary. Zelenskyy is a native of Ukraine and more than 45 years younger than Soros, according to his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.president.gov.ua\/en\/president\/biografiya\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">official website<\/a>. Zelenskyy was born to computer science professor Oleksandr Zelesnkyy and Rimma Zelenska, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/03\/29\/europe\/volodymyr-zelensky-fast-facts\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">CNN<\/a> reported. There is no evidence either is related to Soros.
