Bush, who said she should skip a big ceremony and just elope.<\/p>\n<p>The first daughter\u2019s revelation came during her show with co-host Hoda Kotb Wednesday in the fourth hour of the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/news\/news\/jenna-bush-hager-reveals-dad-george-w-bush-encouraged-elope-rcna23236?cid=sm_npd_td_tw_ma\">Today with Hoda &#038; Jenna<\/a>\u201d as the two were talking about how President Bush encouraged her and then-fiance Henry Chase Hager to elope in 2008 amid news of Kourtney Kardashian and Travis Barker getting married (without a license) in Las Vegas. The clip can be seen <a href=\"https:\/\/www.today.com\/news\/news\/jenna-bush-hager-reveals-dad-george-w-bush-encouraged-elope-rcna23236?cid=sm_npd_td_tw_ma\">here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy dad wanted us to elope because it was a pain,\u201d Jenna told Kotb. \u201cHe was like, \u2018What are y\u2019all doing? Y\u2019all should just elope.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t know if he wanted us to go to Vegas to do it,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">&#8220;My dad wanted us to elope because it was a pain.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/RlzU6OKaip\">https:\/\/t.co\/RlzU6OKaip<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 TODAY (@TODAYshow) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TODAYshow\/status\/1511818821526564870?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The wedding occurred during Bush\u2019s presidency which was between 2001 and 2009.<\/p>\n<p>In the end, dad\u2019s plan was a no go and Jenna and Henry got married at a private ceremony at the Bush family\u2019s Prairie Chapel Ranch near Crawford, Texas. In the past, she\u2019s recalled special moments from the couple\u2019s day. It\u2019s still there, so we have our Christmas services there that we put together. Our kids have gotten to stand on it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cToday\u201d show co-host made it clear it couldn\u2019t have went better and even her dad has previously said it was all everyone could\u2019ve ever dreamed of, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/femail\/article-10696411\/Jenna-Bush-Hager-reveals-father-George-W-Bush-tried-convince-ELOPE.html\">reported<\/a> the Daily Mail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe wedding was spectacular,\u201d President Bush shared at the time. \u201cIt\u2019s all we could have hoped for. It was just a special day and a wonderful day, and we\u2019re mighty blessed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur little girl, Jenna, married a really good guy,\u201d he added after the wedding.<\/p>\n<p>In May 2020, Jenna posted several throwback shots on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CABNDo1A-Gb\/\">Instagram<\/a> from her twelve years of marriage and captioned her post, \u201cTwelve years ago I married this dude as the sun set over Texas\u2014the day after his thirtieth birthday. Twelve years, three kids, some loss, and insurmountable JOY,\u2014and I still love him with all of me.
