Kay Ivey, would treat the castration of children and other sex-change treatments as Class C felonies which, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2022\/04\/07\/alabama-transgender-gender-affirming-care-crime-00023917\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">according<\/a> to Politico, carry a penalty of up to ten years in prison for medical practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation would ban medical treatments done for the purpose of changing a child\u2019s appearance or affirming their gender identity, including drugs that halt healthy puberty, cross-sex hormones, surgical sterilizations such as castration, vasectomies and hysterectomies, cosmetic genital reconstruction surgeries and the removal of healthy body parts. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/07\/andy-beshear-transgender-sports-veto-kentucky\/\">(RELATED: Democratic Kentucky Governor Refuses To Ban Males From Women\u2019s Sports)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">BREAKING: SB 184 passes with a 66-28-1 vote. This legislation bans gender-affirming care for transgender youth aged 18 and under. It also requires school administrators to forcibly out trans students.<\/p>\n<p>It will now go to Governor Kay Ivey for a signature. The bill also makes it illegal for teachers and other school employees to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/watch\/?v=5122396554471088\">encourage<\/a> children to withhold information from their parents about their <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/07\/disney-glaad-transgender-family-lgbt\/\">gender confusion<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>An attorney from the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Alabama called the Alabama legislation \u201cshameful,\u201d and a senior attorney for an LGBT activist organization Lambda Legal called it \u201ccruel, dangerous, and unconstitutional,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclualabama.org\/en\/press-releases\/civil-rights-groups-challenge-alabama-ban-gender-affirming-care-trans-youth\">according<\/a> to an ACLU press release.<\/p>\n<p>Alabama is the first state attempting to explicitly ban sex-change procedures for minors. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/02\/texas-investigate-transgender-parent-child-abuse-greg-abbott\/\">Texas<\/a> plans to <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/02\/25\/texas-district-attorney-sex-change-surgery-children-abuse-greg-abbott-executive-order\/\">prosecute<\/a> parents who medically \u201ctransition\u201d their <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2021\/09\/01\/texas-transgender-children-dfps\/\">children<\/a> to the opposite sex under existing child abuse laws.<\/p>\n<p>It is unclear whether Ivey will sign the bill, and her office did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Content created by The Daily Caller News Foundation is available without charge to any eligible news publisher that can provide a large audience.
