The defendant said in an interview that this combined amount is what she nearly makes annually as a florist.<\/p>\n<p>Jenny Cudd, who was charged under a statute in the U.S. code with obstruction and four other charges, was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wusa9.com\/article\/news\/national\/capitol-riots\/jenny-cudd-the-texas-florist-who-wanted-a-revolution-on-jan-6-sentenced-to-2-months-probation-midland-trump-marina-medvin\/65-9fee23ff-84ef-4b4b-b263-82a3685a1f6e\">sentenced<\/a> to two months probation in March. She pleaded guilty to entering and remaining in a restricted building, a trespass offense, after her involvement in the January 6 Capitol riot.<\/p>\n<p>Cudd, a 37-year-old flower shop owner in Midland, Texas, was handed the sentence by U.S. District Judge Trevor McFadden. McFadden is the same judge that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/judge-acquits-january-6-defendant-reasonably-believed-capitol-police-let-him-in-building\">acquitted<\/a> Capitol riot defendant Matthew Martin, a former government contractor at a nuclear weapons laboratory in Los Alamos, New Mexico, on Wednesday of all charges.<\/p>\n<p>The florist, who also ran for Mayor in Midland in 2019, spent about 19 minutes in the Capitol. She entered through the same doors and at the same time as January 6 defendant Brady Knowlton, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/hes-facing-over-20-years-for-january-6-charges-his-lawyers-say-he-just-went-to-protest\">The Daily Wire<\/a> reported is facing roughly 20 years in prison. Both walked by police officers and were nonviolent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe police just stood by and let everybody inside \u2014 and since that happened \u2014 everybody has been charged with horrible charges that can land you in prison for decades,\u201d Cudd told The Daily Wire.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_366207\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\">\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-366207\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Cudd entering the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021, at 2:35 p.m. Credit: Medvin Law.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Cudd\u2019s lawyer, Marina Medvin, <a href=\"https:\/\/medvinlaw.com\/case-result-january-6-capitol-protester-jenny-cudd\/\">said<\/a> after her client\u2019s sentencing that \u201cnothing could have prepared her for what followed\u201d and that she \u201cbecame the punching bag of social media and recipient of endless abuse and defamation by mainstream media.\u201d An MSNBC opinion columnist notably published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/capitol-rioter-jenny-cudd-s-case-proves-white-privilege-defines-n1256818\">story<\/a> in February claiming that Cudd\u2019s case \u201cproves white privilege defines our justice system\u201d after the defendant was granted a <a href=\"https:\/\/s3.documentcloud.org\/documents\/20473838\/2-5-21-jenny-cudd-travel-order.pdf\">request<\/a> by Judge McFadden to travel.<\/p>\n<p>Cudd said that it has not been easy paying the bills, especially after she says two defense funds for her, on the platforms GoFundMe and GiveSendGo, were shut down. The florist says she has taken out loans to cover her shop.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve had several people come by the shop, and people that know me, that have donated some money,\u201d said Cudd. \u201cI was grateful that I had saved up quite a bit of money. That cost over time gets to where it affects the business. I\u2019ve had to take out some capital loans for the shop to make sure that we can keep operating business as usual.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On the heels of January 6, GoFundMe <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.ph\/zzvVU#selection-409.456-409.467\">announced<\/a>\u00a0that it was banning all fundraising for political event travel that may have a \u201crisk of violence.\u201d Cudd says that after her defense fund was shut down she migrated to GiveSendGo \u2014 which, after several days, shut down her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.givesendgo.com\/Jennycudd\">fundraiser<\/a> at $1,895. She says GiveSendGo reactivated her defense fund in March.<\/p>\n<p>GoFundMe and GiveSendGo did not respond to requests for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Cudd expressed satisfaction that she avoided jail time and was appreciative of her attorney, Medvin. Prosecutors had asked the judge to sentence her to 75 days in jail, one year of supervised release, and 60 hours of community service, but she said she is still \u201cfrustrated to write another large check to the government,\u201d referencing the $5,000 fine.<\/p>\n<p>Cudd, however, noted that there are defendants who have been put in arguably more difficult situations. She claimed some \u201chave had to sell their business and home\u201d just to get enough money for a lawyer \u2014 noting that January 6 defendants have been communicating about such issues in Telegram group chats.<\/p>\n<p>Asked about the acquittal of Matthew Martin this week \u2014 which Alan Dershowitz <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/if-thats-the-rule-we-will-win-january-6-acquittal-enormously-important-dershowitz-says\">told\u00a0The Daily Wire<\/a> is \u201cenormously important\u201d in the context of his defense of Brady Knowlton \u2014 Cudd called it a \u201cmajor win for January \u20186ers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt does set a precedent and will hopefully help an enormous amount of people to prove what has been called a \u2018conspiracy theory,\u2019 up until the case yesterday, that police opened the [Capitol] doors,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Judge McFadden issued a motion to remove the firearm restriction for Cudd while on supervision.<\/p>\n<p><i>Send story tips to Gabe Kaminsky at\u00a0<\/i><a href=\"mailto:gekaminsky@protonmail.com\"><i>gekaminsky@protonmail.com<\/i><\/a><i>.
