All told the decommissioning list would\u00a0surpass the proposed nine ships to be built.<\/p>\n<p>The cuts would reduce the size of the 297-ship fleet that\u2019s already surpassed by China in sheer numbers.<\/p>\n<p>China\u2019s navy is on track to be double the size of the United States\u2019 by 2030, which puts U.S. interests at risk in the Asia Pacific and around the world, as Breitbart News <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">China claimed air and naval units of its People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA) \u201ctracked, monitored, and warned off\u201d the American ship. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/0B2ejFGzxx\">https:\/\/t.co\/0B2ejFGzxx<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart News (@BreitbartNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartNews\/status\/1357830293810540552?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 5, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Adm. Mike Gilday, chief of naval operations, defended the proposal that emphasizes long-range weapons and modern warships, while shedding other ships ill equipped to face current threats.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need a ready, capable, lethal force more than we need a bigger force that\u2019s less ready, less lethal, and less capable,\u201d he said Monday at the Navy League\u2019s Sea-Air-Space symposium in Maryland.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-222 Component-p-0-2-213\">The House Armed Services Committee on Tuesday grilled Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Army Gen. Mark Milley, chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, on the proposal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Component-root-0-2-222 Component-p-0-2-213\">U.S. Rep.
