There were 1992 instances of felony assault last month, a 17.5 percent climb from 1696 in March 2021.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Transit crims saw a staggering 52.5 percent jump as well, as subway crimes, including a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/03\/10\/suspect-charged-hate-crime-nyc-hammer-attack\/\">hammer attack<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/03\/16\/nypd-man-slashed-in-face-in-unprovoked-subway-station-attack\/\">slashings<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/03\/26\/nypd-assailants-batter-woman-on-new-york-city-train-in-unprovoked-attack\/\">beatings<\/a>, made headlines last month. Some 78 percent of New York City office workers, who commute to work, said public transit safety has declined compared to pre-pandemic days, while 82 percent of them say the issue of homelessness has worsened on the transit system, a Morning Consult poll\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/03\/25\/poll-nearly-forty-percent-of-new-york-city-office-workers-consider-leaving-city\/\">showed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_20159882\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/media.breitbart.com\/media\/2022\/03\/NYC-Subway-Safety.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">A New York City Police Department officer and a subway conductor look down the subway platform at the Grand Central Terminal subway station, in New York, New York on May 18, 2021. Overall, hate crimes increased 16 percent in March, with Jews being the most targeted group. There were 23 hate crimes committed against Jewish people, nearly a 100 percent increase from the 12 in March of last year. The second most targeted group was Asians, who were the victims of 17 hate crimes.<\/p>\n<p>In 2019, New York\u2019s disgraced former Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) signed legislation into law allowing \u201csuspects accused of\u00a0second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, child sex crimes, and making threats of terrorism to walk free from jail without ever having to post bail,\u201d Breitbart News\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/29\/new-york-groups-linked-george-soros-mark-zuckerberg-lobby-keep-accused-criminals-out-jail\/\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCoinciding with the state law is New York City\u2019s Supervised Release Program,\u00a0which\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www1.nyc.gov\/office-of-the-mayor\/news\/530-19\/city-expands-award-winning-nationally-recognized-supervised-release-program-response-state\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">allows<\/a>\u00a0thousands of criminal suspects to be released following their arrests without having to post bail or be monitored by social workers,\u201d Breitbart News continued.<\/p>\n<p>Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who assumed office following Cuomo\u2019s resignation, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/565309809\/Hochul-Public-Safety-Plan#from_embed\">proposed<\/a>\u00a0minor changes to the laws in the form of allowing judges to establish bail based on a defendant\u2019s criminal past and making bail eligible for repeat offenders and gun-related crimes. (Photo by Dia Dipasupil\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Breitbart News noted:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>A number of jailbreak organizations \u2014 including the Soros-linked Center for American Progress, the Center for Popular Democracy, United We Dream, and MoveOn, as well as the Zuckerberg-linked FWD.us \u2014\u00a0<a class=\"x5l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.fwd.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/NationalSignOnLetter.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external\">are lobbying<\/a>\u00a0New York lawmakers to oppose any changes to the bail reform law.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cWe are very troubled by recent proposals from Governor Kathy Hochul that would increase incarceration and racial disparities and undo years of work towards ending the criminalization of poverty and children,\u201d the groups <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fwd.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/NationalSignOnLetter.pdf\">said<\/a> in a letter.<\/p>\n<p>The letter continued:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p>Mass incarceration was born of hasty political posturing and the fallacy that we can have justice or safety, but not both.\u00a0<strong>Mass incarceration delivered generations of harm to the same Black, brown, poor, and immigrant communities<\/strong>\u00a0hardest hit by crime without delivering them more safety. [Emphasis added]\n<p>That is why\u00a0<strong>we are calling upon Governor Hochul, Lieutenant Governor Benjamin, and legislative leaders to protect bail<\/strong>, discovery, and Raise the Age reforms. [Emphasis added]\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Rep.
