They\u2019re not allowed to physically touch you,\u201d Jackie said, per the video of her interview.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Jackie noted she was leaving with the fabric softener in her purse when the security guard stopped her and asked her to remove the product from her bag. Jackie told the <em>Mail<\/em> that she handed over the fabric softener that she planned to steal for her laundry before the guard allegedly grabbed her and took her to a back room where she was given a document that bars her from entering any Duane Reade in New York state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cI said, \u2018no, you can\u2019t do that. I gave you back your property. I did not leave. I was in the store still when I gave you back your stuff, and you are not letting me leave the store,&#8217;\u201d she recounted, according to the <em>Mail\u2019s<\/em> video.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>Security guards in New York have a right to detain suspected shoplifters as long as the detainment is done reasonably, the Law Offices of Stephen Bilkis and Associates <a href=\"https:\/\/criminaldefense.1800nynylaw.com\/new-york-petit-larceny-security-guards-lawyer.html#:~:text=If%20a%20security%20has%20reason,for%20an%20unreasonably%20long%20time\">notes<\/a>. Per the law offices, in addition to using excessive force, like choking, unreasonable detainments include:<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<ul>\n<li>Detaining you for an unreasonably long time<\/li>\n<li>Waiting an unreasonably long time before contacting the police<\/li>\n<li>Verbally abusing you by using offensive language such as racial slurs or threats<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span>Jackie also told the <em>Mail<\/em> that \u201ctaking stuff is hard.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cWhenever you try to steal something, it\u2019s a 50\/50 shot that you\u2019ll get caught. But usually, you get caught,\u201d she explained.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Following her bizarre interview, she again confronted the store\u2019s security with her boyfriend and continued to protest that the guard broke the law, the <em>Mail<\/em> noted.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The alleged incident <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/02\/14\/nypd-shoplifter-punching-convenience-store-employee\/\">comes<\/a> as crime has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/crime\/2022\/04\/07\/crime-jumps-36-5-percent-in-new-york-city-as-bail-laws-shape-gubernatorial-race\/\">jumped<\/a> substantially in New York City this year.
