href=\"https:\/\/www.theatlantic.com\/live\/disinformation-democracy-uchicago-conference-2022\/\">Disinformation and the Erosion of Democracy<\/a>\u201d forum, Stelter was <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1512125598440824833?s=20&#038;t=-yHwuFS8ext6Z8UNZ9bWbg\">asked<\/a> by college freshman Christopher Phillips about CNN\u2019s record of inaccurate reporting and suppression of news.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p><span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">spoken<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">extensively<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">about<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">Fox<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">News<\/span> class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">of<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">the<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">mainstream<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">media<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">and<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">CNN<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">in<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">one<\/span> <span class=\"transcript-snippet__content__body__word\">direction.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Stelter answered by first suggesting it was time for lunch. \u201cToo bad it\u2019s\u00a0time for lunch,\u201d he said before acknowledging he had 30 seconds to answer the question. Stelter said he would talk to Phillips privately about the question, but noted he would also give an honest public answer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think you\u2019re describing a different channel than the one that I watch,\u201d Stelter said, denying that CNN purveyed numerous hoaxes and coverups.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut I understand that that is a popular right-wing narrative about CNN,\u201d Stelter added.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Freshman Christopher Phillips CALLS OUT Brian Stelter and CNN for being a &#8220;purveyor of disinformation.&#8221; He points to the Russian collusion hoax, Jussie Smollett, the smears of Justice Kavanaugh and Nick Sandmann, and their dismissal of Hunter Biden&#8217;s laptop. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eHxqAWqVSC\">pic.twitter.com\/eHxqAWqVSC<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nicholas Fondacaro (@NickFondacaro) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/NickFondacaro\/status\/1512125598440824833?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>In March,\u00a0Stelter refused to walk back inaccurate claims he promoted on his program when he insisted Hunter Biden\u2019s \u201claptop from hell\u201d emails were \u201cRussian disinformation.\u201d Stelter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/18\/exclusive-meltdown-cnn-brian-stelter-refuses-walk-back-false-claims-hunter-biden-laptop-emails-russian-disinformation\/\">made<\/a> the claim Hunter\u2019s laptop story was \u201cRussian disinformation\u201d on October 18, 2020, before the <em>New York Times<\/em> authenticated the laptop last month. Hunter\u2019s laptop was authenticated by the <em>New York Post<\/em> in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>When pressed by Breitbart News on these claims he made on his program, Stelter refused to retract his false statements and insinuations \u2014 and instead falsely accused Breitbart News\u00a0of not standing by its reporting.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo\u2026 you clearly can\u2019t back up your assertion that I claimed \u2018Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop emails were likely Russian propaganda\u2019 \u2014 thanks for confirming that what you wrote is false,\u201d he responded to this reporter.<\/p>\n<p>CNN finally <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/the-media\/2022\/03\/30\/cnn-admits-hunter-bidens-laptop-is-authentic-532-days-after-initial-reporting\/\">admitted<\/a> in March that Hunter Biden\u2019s \u201claptop from hell\u201d was authentic \u2014 532 days after the initial story broke on October 24, 2020\u00a0\u2014 notably calling it\u00a0\u201cRussian disinformation\u201d and\u00a0\u201cmade up\u201d at the time.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, CNN has come\u00a0<a class=\"editor-rtfLink\" href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/politics\/2022\/03\/18\/exclusive-meltdown-cnn-brian-stelter-refuses-walk-back-false-claims-hunter-biden-laptop-emails-russian-disinformation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">under fire<\/a>\u00a0during an ongoing internal investigation in the wake of CNN\u2019s former president Jeff Zucker\u2019s resignation. The investigation may engulf Stelter due to his closeness to Zucker.
