But really, they have not actually conceded, despite the litany of recent admissions.<\/p>\n<p>In the last two weeks, the <em>New York Times<\/em>, CNN, and the <em>Washington Post<\/em> all came forward to admit that the Hunter Biden hard drive \u2014 which I originally reported a year and a half ago in the lead-up to the 2020 election and saw those outlets dismiss and smear the stories as \u201cbaroque mythology,\u201d \u201cmade up,\u201d \u201cSoviet tradecraft,\u201d and \u201cdisparaging Biden\u201d\u00a0\u2014 was authentic.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>However, despite initial admissions, the media are now stopping short of acknowledging the reporting on the information the hard drive contained\u00a0\u2014 namely, that Joe Biden was a direct beneficiary of Hunter\u2019s deals.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, they are inviting the people who come from the very institutions that outright lied and purposely misrepresented the laptop and its contents in the first place to continue lying and misrepresenting the laptop and its contents.<\/p>\n<p>MSNBC, for instance,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.msnbc.com\/opinion\/msnbc-opinion\/hunter-biden-s-business-bad-look-here-s-how-fix-n1294057\">published<\/a>\u00a0a column by former FBI assistant director for counterintelligence (2011-2012) Frank Figliuzzi\u00a0\u2014 the same FBI that buried the laptop in 2019 and then saw a number of former officials sign on to a letter baselessly calling the reporting on it \u201cRussian disinformation\u201d \u2014 insisting the hard drive does not include any incriminating information about Joe Biden. The column calls any focus on Joe Biden\u2019s involvement with Hunter a fixation of the \u201cfar-right,\u201d and essentially says Hunter\u2019s behavior is not anything out of the ordinary in Washington.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe may never know precisely what executives, said to be affiliated with the Chinese government, thought the Bidens could do for them. But anyone who has spent time working in counterintelligence, as I have, understands that the facts laid out in The Post\u2019s review aren\u2019t unique to the Biden family or to any one political party,\u201d Figliuzzi writes, in an episode of stunning disingenuity. \u201cThat\u2019s why \u2014 particularly with no evidence of wrongdoing by his father \u2014 we should be thinking not so much about Hunter Biden but beyond Hunter Biden.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Counterintelligence expert Figliuzzi\u2019s 1,359 word column makes exactly 0 mentions of the information contained in the hard drive, which show a White House call about the then-VP\u2019s upcoming visit to Ukraine <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/obama-conference-call-leaked-to-burisma-biden-emails\/\">was leaked<\/a> to Burisma, that then-VP Joe Biden <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/14\/email-reveals-how-hunter-biden-introduced-ukrainian-biz-man-to-dad\/\">took a meeting<\/a> with a Burisma executive in Washington, and that Hunter Biden was <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/10\/15\/emails-reveal-how-hunter-biden-tried-to-cash-in-big-with-chinese-firm\/\">holding equity<\/a> for Joe Biden in a business with members of the Chinese Communist Party.<\/p>\n<p>Dan Abrams, ABC News analyst and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/dan-abrams\/\">founder of Mediaite<\/a>, made a similar\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/tv\/dan-abrams-gives-blistering-15-minute-hunter-biden-media-critique-on-morning-joe\/\">claim<\/a> on Wednesday in analyzing the story, acknowledging on legacy media show prep <em>Morning Joe<\/em> that the laptop is authentic\u00a0\u2014 but then hedging, \u201cIf you\u2019ve got some facts, if you want to talk specifics about an email or what we know, fair enough. But what you\u2019re seeing from some of the right-wing media is this effort to lump together Hunter and Joe,\u201d and going on to slap \u201cthe mainstream media\u201d on the wrist for not doing more at the time when it mattered to report accurately on the Laptop from Hell.<\/p>\n<p>But Dan Abrams himself was one of the people in \u201cthe mainstream media,\u201d who at the time defaulted to dismiss the <em>New York Post<\/em> report as \u201cunverified\u201d and \u201cuntrue\u201d and essentially admitted he was too lazy and decadent to chase down the facts of the story himself.<\/p>\n<p>Abrams <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mediaite.com\/election-2020\/dan-abrams-breaks-down-trumps-hunter-biden-laptop-allegations-from-debate\/\">went<\/a> on ABC News in October 2020 to say \u201cthere\u2019s no evidence that Joe Biden got any of that money\u201d from Hunter\u2019s CCP deals, after George Stephanopoulos set up the conversation saying, \u201cMost of those charges \u2026 are unverified, several misleading or untrue,\u201d to which Abrams replied, \u201cRight.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Apparently he missed the primetime press conference by Hunter Biden\u2019s business associate Tony Bobulinski, who was personally involved in the China deal, where he said unequivocally that Joe Biden was on the take, but that Hunter was holding the money for him to create \u201cplausible deniability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Abrams also tweeted in December 2020\u00a0\u2014 over a month after election day \u2014 that he invited \u201cthose making allegations against Hunter\u201d to talk, but was \u201crebuffed,\u201d apparently shocked at the idea that he might have to put in some leg work to convince a rightfully skeptical source to talk to him. For the record, I was never approached by Abrams or contacted in any capacity by him or his producers.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cSo this is odd. @NBCNews did a story about how the lack of cooperation from those making allegations against Hunter Biden made the case tough to investigate. They were \u2018rebuffed.\u2019 \u2026 Now when I ask them to come on @DanAbramsSXM, to explain, they rebuff me,\u201d he\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/danabrams\/status\/1341812729418539010?s=20&#038;t=Rs-RHLVrgJF-zEpngCuAvA\">posted<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Atlantic<\/em>\u2019s Anne Applebaum is another member of the so-called serious journalist class who is now partially adjusting her position on the laptop\u00a0\u2014 but stopping short of being honest.<\/p>\n<p>In October 2020, Applebaum <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/anneapplebaum\/status\/1316701645640806400?s=20&#038;t=dXZHl9neokdoOES2EzVD0g\">smeared<\/a> the Post reporting as \u201cfraudulent claims.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B4\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>Now, during an appearance this week at the University of Chicago panel on \u201cdisinformation,\u201d Applebaum has decided the laptop itself isn\u2019t \u201cfraudulent,\u201d but is still insisting on ignoring the proof it contains that Joe Biden was involved in Hunter\u2019s deals.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy problem with Hunter Biden\u2019s laptop is I think it\u2019s totally irrelevant, I mean, it\u2019s not whether its disinformation\u2026 I don\u2019t think Hunter Biden\u2019s business relationships have anything to do with who should be president of the United States,\u201d she <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/ClayTravis\/status\/1511853692160458752\">told<\/a>\u00a0a student during the Q&#038;A.<\/p>\n<p>In my previous column I chastised the media for acknowledging the veracity of my original reporting at the <em>New York Post<\/em>\u00a0but refusing to retract their previous lies.<\/p>\n<p>However, what I failed to realize at the time, and what I am now understanding is that, actually, the legacy media have still not come around to the truth, and are still firmly set in their roles as Democratic Party PR agents, by creating a distinction between the authenticity of the hard-drive and its contents.<\/p>\n<p>Many others in right-wing media understood the admissions from the <em>Times<\/em>, CNN, and the <em>Washington Post<\/em> as tacitly conceding that they were wrong in their reporting over a year ago, and that they were now doing an about-face. But it is clear that the activists and liars who make up our journalism industry are still way off from reckoning with their ways and continue to parse words in purposely misleading their audience.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p><strong><em>Emma-Jo Morris is the Politics Editor at Breitbart News.
