Version: 4.0.47--><div><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2022\/04\/GettyImages-1239813029.jpg?w=1200&#038;h=800&#038;ixlib=react-9.3.0\" class=\"ff-og-image-inserted\" alt=\"image\" \/><\/div>\n<p>In her opening statement at Thursday\u2019s White House press briefing, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki supported \u201cgender-affirming health care\u201d regarding children who have been deemed \u201ctransgender\u201d kids, intoning, \u201cTo be clear, every major medical association agrees that gender-affirming health care for transgender kids is a best practice and potentially lifesaving.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Jen Psaki says sex reassignment surgery and puberty blockers for KIDS is \u201ca best practice and potentially lifesaving.\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/1bOaerdsCh\">pic.twitter.com\/1bOaerdsCh<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 RNC Research (@RNCResearch) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/RNCResearch\/status\/1512141803021082629?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 7, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Psaki began by, of course, targeting Republicans, claiming that the treatment doled out to children deemed \u201ctransgender\u201d was \u201cmedically necessary\u201d and \u201clifesaving,\u201d as she stated, \u201cRepublican lawmakers are currently debating legislation that, among many things, would target trans youth with tactics that threatens to put pediatricians in prison if they provide medically necessary, lifesaving healthcare for the kids they serve.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She referred to legislation in Alabama that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.al.com\/educationlab\/2022\/04\/alabama-senate-adds-dont-say-gay-amendment-to-transgender-bathroom-bill.html\">requires<\/a> public school students to use restrooms and locker rooms agreeing with the sex shown on their birth certificates and also would ban classroom instruction or discussion on sexual orientation or gender identity for children in grades K-5, snapping, \u201cJust like the extreme government overreach we\u2019ve seen in Texas, where politicians have sent state officials into the homes of loving parents to investigate them for abuse \u2014 just to harass and intimidate the LGBTQI+ community \u2014 today\u2019s vote in Alabama will only serve to harm kids.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She threatened, \u201cBut Alabama\u2019s lawmakers and other legislators who are contemplating these discriminatory bills have been put on notice by the Department of Justice and the Department of Health and Human Services that laws and policies preventing care that health care professionals recommend for transgender minors may violate the Constitution and federal law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Then she claimed, \u201cTo be clear, every major medical association agrees that gender-affirming health care for transgender kids is a best practice and potentially lifesaving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What does \u201cgender-affirming\u201d care include?<\/p>\n<p>The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aclu.org\/news\/lgbtq-rights\/five-things-to-know-about-gender-affirming-health-care\">states<\/a> that gender-affirming care includes puberty suppression and hormone therapy, writing, \u201cGender-affirming care, including puberty suppression and hormone therapy, is potentially lifesaving.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Columbia University\u2019s Department of Psychiatry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.columbiapsychiatry.org\/news\/gender-affirming-care-saves-lives\">enthuses<\/a>, \u201cAlthough less frequent than other forms of gendering-affirming care, medical procedures, such as chest surgery, may be performed on older adolescents who have shown a consistent and persistent gender identity, are stable with respect to their mental health, and have parental support.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Williams Institute at UCLA\u2019s School of Law <a href=\"https:\/\/williamsinstitute.law.ucla.edu\/publications\/bans-trans-youth-health-care\/\">writes<\/a>, \u201cGender-affirming care, including the use of hormones to delay puberty and to promote the development of secondary sex characteristics that are consistent with a child\u2019s gender identity, is recommended for transgender youth by the American Academy of Pediatricians and the Endocrine Society and is viewed by the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP) and the American Psychiatric Association (APA) as evidence-based patient care.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em>The Daily Wire is one of America\u2019s fastest growing conservative media companies for breaking news, investigative reporting, sports, podcasts, in-depth analysis, books, and entertainment for a reason: because we believe in what we do.
