While the president sympathized with Americans struggling amid high gas prices \u2013 noting that \u201ct<span id=\"subtitle2822\" class=\"subtitle processed selfragment\" data-id=\"2822\" data-start=\"1873908\" data-end=\"1875010\">he decision today is not<\/span> <span id=\"subtitle2825\" class=\"subtitle processed\" data-id=\"2825\" data-start=\"1875010\" data-end=\"1877745\">without cost here at home\u201d and promising to \u201cminimize\u201d the impact \u2013 he also made a point to highlight how today\u2019s current gas crisis is evidence that the U.S. should \u201cbecome energy independent.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt should motivate us to accelerate the transition to clean <span class=\"il\">energy,\u201d Biden said at the time. \u201c<\/span>This is a perspective, as I said, that our European allies share and the \u2013 a future where together we can achieve greater independence.\u201d <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/27\/joe-biden-gasoline-prices-oil-natural-gas-russia-ukraine\/\">(RELATED: How Biden Raised Gas Prices Without Anyone Noticing)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cLoosening environmental regulations or pulling back clean <span class=\"il\">energy<\/span> investment won\u2019t \u2013 let me explain \u2026 will not lower <span class=\"il\">energy<\/span> prices for families. (Photo by Anna Moneymaker\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Kevin Book, a senior associate of the Energy Security and Climate Change Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, told the Daily Caller that while energy will likely change in the future, the administration\u2019s efforts to move over to \u201cclean energy\u201d is unlikely to help Americans who are struggling now.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe transition is likely to be long,\u201d Book said. \u201cIt could potentially be extensive, and in any case it\u2019s not going to be an immediate solution. One of the challenges of the present is that for anybody whose running for office, or trying to defend their party\u2019s majority in the Congress \u2026 there\u2019s no electric vehicles coming to the rescue in months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe cost of being a true energy island and cutting ourselves off from the world using only our own resources with no contact with the world would be much, much higher than the price we\u2019re paying now,\u201d Book also said.<\/p>\n<p>Though Biden is perhaps the most notable, he is not alone in pushing for a \u201ctransition to clean energy\u201d as Americans see higher gas prices. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/31\/biden-promises-lower-gas-prices-35-cents\/\">(RELATED:\u00a0Biden Promises Lower Gas Prices After Emergency Reserve Release, Suggests \u2018Up To 35 Cents\u2019 Lower)<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Vice President Kamala Harris held a joint press conference March 7 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-10587073\/Harris-pushes-green-energy-Americans-face-record-gas-prices.html\">to push<\/a> the administration\u2019s green energy plan. The two used the press conference to, in part, tout a $3.7 billion investment into new electric buses.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImagine a future: the freight trucks that deliver bread and milk to our grocery store shelves and the buses that take children to school and parents to work,\u201d Harris <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/davidblackmon\/2022\/03\/08\/as-gas-prices-soar-white-house-doubles-down-on-green-new-deal\/?sh=15c1f2fe1cdd\">said<\/a> at the press conference. \u201cImagine all the heavy-duty vehicles that keep our supply lines strong and allow our economy to grow. (Photo by Logan Cyrus \/ AFP) (Photo by LOGAN CYRUS\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Katie Tubb, a\u00a0research fellow for energy and environmental issues at the Heritage Foundation, noted that the administration has been \u201cconsistent\u201d in its push for clean energy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEven in this current situation, he [Biden] is framing it as that much more of a reason why we should be following his agenda for energy policy and a re-engineering\u00a0of the energy sector,\u201d Tubb said, noting that she\u2019s been \u201ca little surprised that they haven\u2019t changed course at all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey\u2019re trying to frame the current crisis as an argument for wind and solar and electric vehicles, for this vision that they have for the energy sector,\u201d Tubb added.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, Tubb argued that the president\u2019s proposal \u201cis incredibly naive,\u201d citing\u00a0Europe as one example of an area of the world that has been \u201cpursuing this for over 30 years now.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The administration has, as Tubb noted, been pushing for <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/04\/joe-biden-strategic-petroleum-reserve-oil-gasoline-prices\/\">clean energy<\/a> throughout Biden\u2019s time in office. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm, for example, declared in May 2021 that Americans wouldn\u2019t be affected by high gas prices if they drove \u201can electric car.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, we obviously are \u2018all in\u2019 on making sure that we meet the President\u2019s goals of getting to 100% clean electricity by 2035 and net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,\u201d Granholm said during a press briefing when pressed on how \u201cacute issues with the Colonial Pipeline ransomware attack\u201d would \u201cspeed up\u201d the administration\u2019s efforts to move into a \u201crenewable\u201d direction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd, <span class=\"il\">you<\/span> know, <span class=\"il\">if<\/span> <span class=\"il\">you<\/span> <span class=\"il\">drive<\/span> an <span class=\"il\">electric<\/span> <span class=\"il\">car<\/span>, this <span class=\"il\">would<\/span> <span class=\"il\">not<\/span> be <span class=\"il\">affecting<\/span> <span class=\"il\">you<\/span>, clearly,\u201d Granholm added.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, White House press secretary Jen Psaki also used the country\u2019s gas pains as evidence that the U.S. must \u201cachieve energy independence that reduces demand for oil and bolsters our clean energy economy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>She made the connection in a statement touting Biden\u2019s recent \u201chistoric\u201d decision to \u201crelease from the Strategic Petroleum Reserve of 1 million barrels a day for six months\u201d \u2013 an initiative <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/31\/joe-biden-strategic-petroleum-reserve-crude-oil-gasoline-prices\/\">announced<\/a> by the administration at the end of March in an effort to lower gas prices.<\/p>\n<p>Ultimately, though, it remains to be seen whether Americans \u2013 currently concerned over gas prices \u2013 will jump at the Biden administration\u2019s plan. Brook, for one, argued that the current climate may mean people are less willing to consider the shift.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe argument that you should go to one resource over another isn\u2019t obvious to American consumers. American consumers are not energy experts.
