A former clerk for Breyer, Jackson was first appointed a District Court judge by President Barack Obama in 2013, and Biden elevated her to the D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals in 2021.<\/p>\n<p>Republican Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Mitt Romney of Utah voted with Democrats to confirm Jackson. All three had previously announced their support of her nomination and <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/04\/04\/susan-collins-votes-with-democrats-ketanji-brown-jackson-discharge-motion\/\">voted<\/a> with Democrats in a procedural vote to advance Jackson\u2019s nomination to the Senate floor.<\/p>\n<p>Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of New York described the vote as \u201cjoyous, momentous, and groundbreaking\u201d in morning floor remarks.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\">\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Schumer on Ketanji Brown Jackson: \u201cIn the 233-year history of the Supreme Court, never, never has a Black woman held the title of Justice. In contrast, Democrats emphasized the fact that Jackson will be the first black woman to serve on the Supreme Court. <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/21\/senators-signal-three-issues-define-ketanji-brown-jackson-hearing-supreme-court\/\"><strong>(RELATED: Senators Signal Three Issues That Will Define The Ketanji Brown Jackson Hearings)<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Led by Josh Hawley of Missouri, Republican senators <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/17\/alarming-pattern-josh-hawley-supreme-court-nominee-ketanji-brown-jackson-record-child-porn\/\">argued<\/a> that Jackson consistently under-sentenced defendants convicted of child pornography offenses. Democrats and some conservatives <a href=\"https:\/\/dailycaller.com\/2022\/03\/21\/andrew-mccarthy-josh-hawley-criticism-scotus-nominee\/\">pushed<\/a> back, saying that Jackson\u2019s sentences were in line with suggestions offered by an arm of the federal court system known as the Probation Office.
