In February, District 65 hosted Black Lives Matter At School Week of Action, The Daily Wire <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/illinois-school-districts-special-needs-slideshow-do-not-say-all-lives-matter\">reported<\/a> Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>The district\u2019s LGBTQ+ Equity Month study unit is currently running for Pre-K to eighth grade. According to curriculum materials posted online, it is appropriate for students in the preschool to learn that some of their friends\u2019 parents might be \u201cnon-binary or queer\u201d and to learn about the rainbow flag. The curriculum also has students learn what each color of the flag represents \u2014 before drawing their own.<\/p>\n<div class=\"image\"><\/div>\n<p>The end of the presentation has students dancing to a \u201csong about rainbow colors,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=tbPGvZDNoY0&#038;t=96s\">according<\/a> to the slides.<\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cEncourage students &#038; families to participate in our Rainbow day and color days by wearing the color of the day,\u201d a lesson plan states, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=scaCAO-fjOA\">noting<\/a> that the Pre-K students were to listen to the book \u201cPride: The Story of Harvey Milk and the Rainbow Flag\u201d by Rob Sanders.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Speaking to The Daily Wire on condition of anonymity, a parent whose spouse works as a teacher in the district said presenting gender-based ideology ought to be the \u201cpurview of parents.\u201d The parent said \u201cteaching this to children without parental consent\u201d is not the right thing to do.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for District 65 did not respond to a request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Gender-based curricula have also been implemented during other equity-focused weeks. During BLM month in February, the district presented slides on being a \u201cTransgender ally\u201d that told special needs kids they may choose to be \u201ca boy or girl or both or neither, or something else\u201d since \u201cno one gets to choose for them,\u201d according to slides reviewed by The Daily Wire<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEveryone has the right to choose who they love and the kind of family they want by listening to their own heart and mind,\u201d one slide states. \u201cEverybody is important, and has the right to be safe and happy.\u00a0 Another way to say that is collective value.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Following this, teachers were instructed to do a \u201cread aloud\u201d of books that have a social justice bent. One suggested <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Juli%C3%A1n-Mermaid-Jessica-Love\/dp\/0763690457\">book<\/a> is \u201cJuli\u00e1n is a Mermaid,\u201d which is about a boy who sees how women are dressed \u201cspectacularly\u201d and goes home to dress \u201clike the ladies.\u201d Another <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/When-Aidan-Became-Brother-Lukoff\/dp\/1620148374\">suggested<\/a> book, \u201cWhen Aidan Became a Brother,\u201d is about a \u201ctrans boy\u201d who learns \u201chow to love with his whole self.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"a-expander-content a-expander-partial-collapse-content a-expander-content-expanded\">\n<p><span class=\"a-text-italic\">\u201c\u2018When Aidan Became a Brother\u2019<\/span> is a heartwarming book that will resonate with transgender children, reassure any child concerned about becoming an older sibling, and celebrate the many transitions a family can experience,\u201d the Amazon description for the book states.<\/p>\n<p><i>Send story tips to Gabe Kaminsky at <\/i><a href=\"mailto:gekaminsky@protonmail.com\"><i>gekaminsky@protonmail.com<\/i><\/a><i>.
