He has promised to \u201cmake significant improvements to Twitter\u201d and has polled his followers on whether or not Twitter \u201crigorously adheres\u201d to the principles of free speech.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the wake of his purchase \u2014 after which he received a position on Twitter\u2019s board of directors \u2014 many employees are wary of reforms that Musk may bring to the site. Twitter told <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/technology\/elon-musks-arrival-stirs-fears-among-some-twitter-employees-2022-04-07\/?utm_medium=Social&#038;utm_source=twitter\"><span>Reuters<\/span><\/a><span> that the company\u2019s board \u201cplays an important advisory and feedback role across the entirety of our service\u201d while daily decisions are made by Twitter\u2019s management and employees.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>One employee found this distinction \u201chard to believe\u201d and told Reuters, \u201cIf that\u2019s the case, why would Elon want a board seat?\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Reuters added that other employees fear Musk will alter Twitter\u2019s \u201ccorporate culture\u201d of \u201cinclusivity,\u201d as Musk \u201chas faced widespread criticism for posting memes that mocked transgender people and efforts to stem the spread of COVID-19.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSome people are dusting off their resumes,\u201d another employee told the outlet. \u201cI don\u2019t want to work for somebody [like Musk].\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Twitter employees have been the subject of mockery for their favorable view toward censorship \u2014 even by others in the technology world. Lulu Cheng Meservey \u2014 the vice president of communications for Substack, a platform that supports subscription newsletters \u2014 recently <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/substack-invites-new-applications-but-not-from-twitter-employees-triggered-by-free-speech\"><span>jested<\/span><\/a><span> that Twitter employees should not bother applying to her company if they worry about Musk\u2019s reforms.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cSubstack is hiring! If you\u2019re a Twitter employee who\u2019s considering resigning because you\u2019re worried about Elon Musk pushing for less regulated speech\u2026 please do not come work here,\u201d she tweeted. \u201cBut for everybody else, we really are hiring! We debate respectfully, execute maniacally, and live to serve writers and podcasters.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Indeed, Musk\u2019s takeover of Twitter appears to be at least partially motivated by the company\u2019s censorship. According to Babylon Bee CEO Seth Dillon, Musk consulted with the Christian satire site \u2014 which was suspended from Twitter for an <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/babylonbee.com\/news\/the-babylon-bees-man-of-the-year-is-rachel-levine\"><span>article<\/span><\/a><span> that jokingly named Health and Human Services Assistant Secretary Rachel Levine as \u201cMan of the Year\u201d \u2014 before purchasing his stake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cMusk reached out to us before he polled his followers about Twitter\u2019s commitment to free speech,\u201d Dillon reported. \u201cHe wanted to confirm that we had, in fact, been suspended. He even mused on that call that he might need to buy Twitter.
