due to censorship authorities feeling it objectified a naked model.<\/p>\n<p>Britain\u2019s censorious\u00a0Advertising Standards Authority has banned an advertisement for vegan soup over accusations that it objectified a naked model featured within it.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The advertisement \u2014 a still image \u2014 in question depicts a near-naked man with a soup bottle covering his genitals, with the tagline \u201c#NOTHINGTOHIDE\u201d seemingly referencing the soup\u2019s ingredients, which the company seems to claim represents the soup brand\u2019s \u201cstandards\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>While the company claims to have taken steps to \u201cminimise\u201d offence, the UK\u2019s advertising authority \u2014 which has banned a host of adverts in the UK in the past for a plethora of often bizarre reasons \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asa.org.uk\/rulings\/renourish-ltd-a22-1143097-renourish-ltd.html\">announced<\/a>\u00a0that they had banned the advert on Wednesday, labelling the soup selling image as \u201cirresponsible\u201d and \u201clikely to cause serious offence\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaking the image, the \u201c#nothingtohide\u201d strapline and the placement of the bottle into account, we considered that the ad was likely to have the effect of objectifying the man by using his physical features to draw attention to an unrelated product,\u201d the advertising watchdog declared in a post explaining its ruling.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cWe therefore concluded that the ad was irresponsible and likely to cause serious offence to some people,\u201d liberal use of its censorship powers to ban advertisements, having previously gone so far as banning \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2016\/04\/29\/advertising-watchdog-moves-ban-idealised-images-pretty-women\/\">idealised<\/a>\u201d depictions of women in 2016, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2019\/06\/15\/uk-bans-harmful-gender-stereotypes-advertisements\/\">gender stereotyping<\/a> in 2019.<\/p>\n<p>Since then, the authority has repeatedly banned advertisements over accusations that they were \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/tech\/2018\/10\/15\/u-k-bans-ad-featuring-thin-model-after-uproar\/\">irresponsible<\/a>\u201d in their depiction of thin people, and for perpetuating \u201charmful gender stereotypes\u201d by depicting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2019\/08\/16\/ad-woman-pram-men-explored-space-banned-perpetuating-harmful-gender-stereotypes\/\">mother with a baby<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ASA even went so far as banning an advert depicting a young woman over its use of the term \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2020\/01\/10\/sexist-ad-banned-having-word-girl-in-it\/\">girl boss<\/a>\u201c, which it deemed \u201csexist\u201d and \u201cpatronising\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe considered that using the gendered term \u2018girl boss\u2019, as opposed to just \u2018boss\u2019, implied that the gender of the person depicted was relevant to their performance in a managerial or entrepreneurial role,\u201d the censorious watchdog <a href=\"https:\/\/www.asa.org.uk\/rulings\/people-per-hour-ltd-G19-1042601.html\">wrote<\/a> in its ruling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore\u2026 use of the word \u2018girl\u2019 to refer to an adult woman reinforced the impression that a female \u2018boss\u2019 was a novelty, playing at their role and somehow less serious than a man in the same position,\u201d the ruling continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026for the reasons given we concluded that the ad had the effect of reinforcing harmful gender stereotypes and that it breached the [Advertising] Code,\u201d the authority concluded.<\/p>\n<p>The ASA also noted that the company responsible for the advert had since had their advertising team undertake \u201ctraining\u201d to ensure they \u201cconsidered wording\u2026
