The Republicans also requested \u201call documents and communications\u201d related to the public statement that was used to throttle legitimate reporting.  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour public statement served as a basis for Democrat operatives to try to delegitimize the scandalous allegations about Hunter Biden and the Biden family. \u2026 Your public statement was consistent with a broader effort to minimize and censor the New York Post\u2019s reporting about Hunter Biden and the Biden family,\u201d the representatives <a href=\"https:\/\/republicans-judiciary.house.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/04\/2022-04-06-HJC-GOP-to-IC-Officers-re-Public-Statement-on-Hunter-Biden-Emails.pdf\">wrote<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>The legislators said this coordinated effort to stifle key information about a presidential candidate and his son, which had the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/11\/24\/poll-one-in-six-biden-voters-would-have-changed-their-vote-if-they-had-known-about-scandals-suppressed-by-media\/\">potential to change<\/a> voters\u2019 minds about then-candidate Biden shortly before he was elected, \u201cwas a grave disservice to American citizens\u2019 informed participation in our democracy\u201d and deserves a response.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Post first reported that bombshell emails were discovered on Hunter\u2019s laptop in October 2020, one month before the presidential election. The emails documented Hunter\u2019s shady relationships with Chinese and Ukrainian energy companies and how he exploited his father\u2019s political reputation to strike business deals with foreign oligarchs. <\/p>\n<p>Less than one week after the Post\u2019s reporting went public, 51 former intelligence heads from the CIA, Department of Defense, National Security Agency, and more signed a letter smearing the laptop story as \u201cRussian disinformation.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>These so-called \u201cexperts\u201d admitted that they had never seen the laptop nor had they any evidence to suggest that their baseless theory was accurate, but the letter quickly became the basis for the left to wage a censorship war on anyone and everyone who amplified the Biden corruption narrative.<\/p>\n<p>Intelligence leaders confirmed at the time that there was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/10\/21\/fbi-doj-debunk-claims-the-hunter-biden-laptop-story-is-russian-disinformation\/\">never any evidence<\/a>\u00a0that the Hunter laptop story was disinformation, yet the \u201cRussian disinformation\u201d theory was wielded by corporate media, Democrats, and Big Tech to suppress any information that could hurt Joe Biden\u2019s presidential chances.<\/p>\n<p>Hunter\u2019s laptop is legitimate, something that several press outlets have only <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/03\/30\/washington-post-new-york-times-deserve-no-credit-for-grudgingly-admitting-what-we-all-knew-about-hunter-biden-in-2020\/\">reluctantly admitted<\/a> recently, but the dozens of intelligence officers who speculated it was a Russian ploy have not uttered a word of regret for their lies. <\/p>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\" \/>\n<p>\n  Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
