Version: 4.0.47--><div><\/div>\n<p class=\"subheading\">The British government will seek to construct eight nuclear power plants and expand domestic oil production in order to ensure energy security amid the global crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Boris Johnson\u2019s long-awaited <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gov.uk\/government\/news\/major-acceleration-of-homegrown-power-in-britains-plan-for-greater-energy-independence\">energy strategy<\/a> will include a major shift towards nuclear power and open up oil exploration in the North Sea in a tacit admission that so-called green energy sources will not be enough in order to secure energy security.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"D-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B1\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<figure id=\"gmxrevmore\" class=\"H\"><\/figure>\n<p>The government said that it wants to see a \u201csignificant acceleration of nuclear\u201d with the aim of producing 24GW of energy from nuclear by the year 2050, or about a quarter of the nation\u2019s projected electricity demand.<\/p>\n<p>The strategy said that it will come with the creation of a new governmental body, dubbed \u201cGreat British Nuclear\u201d, and will see an investment of a \u00a3120 million \u2018Future Nuclear Enabling Fund\u2019 launched later this month to facilitate the \u201csafe, clean, and reliable source of power\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The government said that it will plan to open up eight reactors this decade, saying that the accelerated pace will see the equivalent of one new reactor per year compared to the previous one per decade rate.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B2\" class=\"a8d\"><\/figure>\n<p>A new round of licensing for oil and gas projects in the North Sea is also set to be launched in the Autumn, with the government saying it is important to recognise \u201cthe importance of these fuels to the transition and to our energy security, and that producing gas in the UK has a lower carbon footprint than imported from abroad.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: \u201cWe\u2019re setting out bold plans to scale up and accelerate affordable, clean and secure energy made in Britain, for Britain \u2013 from new nuclear to offshore wind \u2013 in the decade ahead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis will reduce our dependence on power sources exposed to volatile international prices we cannot control, so we can enjoy greater energy self-sufficiency with cheaper bills.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Government Hikes Payroll Tax as Fuel Prices Hit All-Time High<a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/mkd4GzW93D\">https:\/\/t.co\/mkd4GzW93D<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Breitbart London (@BreitbartLondon) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/BreitbartLondon\/status\/1511735491535663113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 6, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>However, the green-minded Conservative government said that it hopes that 95 per cent of electricity in Britain will be \u201clow carbon\u201d by the year 2030 through new investments in solar power, which it said hopes to increase five-fold by 2035.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"M-ROS-B3\" class=\"a8d adSo\"><\/figure>\n<p>The strategy called for a \u201cnew ambition\u201d of attaining 50GW in energy from offshore wind farms by the end of the decade, which the government said would be enough to \u201cpower every home in the UK\u201d. The plan includes floating wind farms in deep sea areas and cuts to regulations in order to speed up approval time from the four year average to one year.<\/p>\n<p>The government will also look to bribe Britons to allow the construction of onshore wind farms in their communities \u201cin return for guaranteed lower energy bills,\u201d however it did not stipulate how exactly this would be achieved.<\/p>\n<p>To the disappointment of economic conservatives, including Reform UK leader Richard Tice, the energy strategy did not lift the ban on fracking, merely stating that an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetimes.co.uk\/article\/fracking-under-consideration-as-uk-energy-security-strategy-to-be-published-20pmgqkns\">impartial technical review<\/a>\u201d will be conducted on shale gas extraction.<\/p>\n<p>Criticising the move, Richard Tice <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TiceRichard\">said<\/a> that the energy plan \u201cwill result in much higher electricity prices as relies on much more expensive, subsidized renewables that caused electricity prices to soar over last 15 years.
