TMZ reported that multiple players from one team and spectators at the game appeared to chase the referee before pinning him to the floor, punching and kicking him.<\/p>\n<p>Kenneth Tarver, the founder of\u00a0KB Sports, which helped host the youth tournament in Lithonia (about 30 minutes from Atlanta), said he doesn\u2019t know what caused the incident. <\/p>\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2022\/04\/basketball_attack3.jpg\"><\/a><figcaption>Coaches appear to confront a ref at the game.<\/figcaption><figcaption><span class=\"credit\">Twitter<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Tarver said he spoke with the referee after the scuffle and that the official is expected to make a full recovery. He added that the team involved in the incident has been banned from future events, which will include increased security. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe referee appears outnumbered from the very start,\u201d Paris Cherry, a former pro basketball player who is now a youth basketball development coach, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsbtv.com\/news\/local\/dekalb-county\/video-shows-parents-kids-attacking-referee-during-weekend-basketball-game-church-facility\/5RIGRQJMHREFDDHSF73KLM2Y5A\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">told WSB-TV.<\/a> \u201cI was appalled. It was a very scary video. To see the adults instigate and then the kids follow up to the point where it was the kids who chased down the referee at the end of the video, it\u2019s just disgusting. We open our doors to serve our community and our goal is to provide an atmosphere conducive for enjoyment, enrichment, etc.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we can not control people, it is our hope and prayer that those who enter our facility will conduct themselves in the best manner.
